Biker vs Tractor Trailer

Just heard this morning that a biker near us here in CLT was killed when a tractor trailer changed lanes and moved over on a biker forcing him to spin out.

Biker killed - Truck driver kept going. Law enforcement still looking for truck.

At 4am it would have been dark. The trucker must have fallen asleep to not see the bike's lights. No fact on this... just assumption.

One of our local women riders had an 18 wheeler trailer run over the top of her. She came close to not making it. One year in the hosipital and tons of surgery she's still with us and riding again. Albeit on a Can-Am Spider. Big semi's will always win...

I had one lane change on a commute while I was driving my 2000 insight just after sunrise. I was passing him on interstate and almost to the front of his trailer. At least he used his signals. No place to go except the shoulder. Nothing like formAtion flying and having half the wheels on wet grass. Insight has only 70 HP and twice the weight of the venture. Shoulder was clear so ended up finishing the pass.

 

He wouldn't get within 300 feet of me after that. We were both wide awake aT that point. Had this guy caused a wreck I am sure he would have been equally clueless.

 

Worked enough interstate accidents on ambulances to know nobody wins when the. Other vehicle is. Semi.

 

Pleas everybody stay ShArp and act like the other guy is out to get you.

It is very likely that the semi driver never had a clue that the bike went down since he didn't even know that the bike was there in the first place.

 

I was run off the road by a semi once (along with 3 other cars) and since a number of other cars stopped to render assistance there was one other driver that took off after the semi, but his van could only hit 80 and the semi was still pulling away from him. Fortunately there was a nice soft runoff area right there so no one was hurt and very minimal damage.

This is the very reason that if I'm passing a semi I do not linger. I get the h3ll around them as quickly as possible and on a RSV that usually is no problem.

 

I've always had a fear of the lane change or one of their tires blowing while I was beside them. I say floor it and don't give em much of a chance. If I get a ticket doing it, so be it.
