Marcarl Posted October 4, 2011 Author #76 Posted October 4, 2011 Just checked two weather sites for this weekend and it is looking pretty good. I would definitly be up for a ride. My personal preference would be to take a backroads ride in the direction of Algonquin Park. Now you got my appetite up,,,, when, where and what time,,, I'm ready!!!!! As far as Wed are concerned,,, it's still bike night, but riding time is getting somewhat short,,, now if I was riding something different, I would only have to make it to the nearest 'Timmies',, but real riding??? in the dark???? naahhh,,, but Saturdays is good I think,, most times!
Wizard765 Posted October 5, 2011 #77 Posted October 5, 2011 We would be up for a ride on Monday (the holiday). Gonna be away Friday and Saturday then kids are coming for Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday. Monday is OPEN... Weather is looking GREAT!! Also be up for a ride on the 15th if the weather holds out that long....

Marcarl Posted October 5, 2011 Author #79 Posted October 5, 2011 I was thinking saturday with monday as a possible backup plan or a even a second ride ...maybe We're headed out on Monday,,,, somewhere???? Marca says its' time to ride, so Saturday would make an excellent practice day,,, just to get ready so to speak,,,,, where and when?

Marca says its' time to ride, so Saturday would make an excellent practice day,,, just to get ready so to speak,,,,, where and when? My heart is still set on doing the Muskoka ride on Sat ( and I suspect the boss may suddenly come up with other plans since it will be her day off). I am afraid If I leave it until Monday something might come up and I would end up missing the boat altogether and going by what Evan just reported the leaves are dropping fast up that way. So anyone interested could either meet up at my place or somewhere on route. I am currantly not sure of which is the best route but I plan on avoiding major highways if possible and try to grab the more scenic route. As far as that goes suggested routes are more than welcome, Since it has been many years since I have been up that way. Edited October 5, 2011 by saddlebum
Wizard765 Posted October 5, 2011 #81 Posted October 5, 2011 Ben: I can give you an excellent Muskoka run but it is a long day. No major hwys. Wayne
Naugh-T Posted October 5, 2011 #82 Posted October 5, 2011 Ben, Brad as well has a nice route as well, we go quite often, that is my favourite area around here Enjoy Naugh-T
Marcarl Posted October 5, 2011 Author #83 Posted October 5, 2011 We could do Muskoka,,, Southwood Road, 632, 141, Tallyho Swords, 518, and then scoot back on the 400. We could also do Thornbury, (Blue Mountain,Collingwood) and the Beaver Valley. Probably more color.
thecount Posted October 6, 2011 #84 Posted October 6, 2011 NO Saturday or Monday Ride for us. Just a ride to Nappanee to pick the new to me trailer on Sunday. Enjoy the weekend boys and girls. Looking like a fantastic weekend to ride and catch the fall colours.
BradT Posted October 6, 2011 #85 Posted October 6, 2011 Carl have not been on Southwood this year, as it was getting bad last year, to many gravel patches across the whole section of road. Ben the route I take is normally around 800 km and takes about 11 hours and includes the 400 series hwy Brad
saddlebum Posted October 6, 2011 #86 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) Playing around with maps This is sort of what I came up with. It seems interesting enough but I haven't been up these roads in years, therefore I am still open to suggestions. I prefer to avoid using the 400 series hwy's unless I have to. Largely because for me they tend to make me think of work too much. crazy as it may sound. The only thing that has become a definite came about with my wifes kind assistance "IF YOUR GONNA BE GONE ALL DAY IT BETTER BE SAT". She works saturday's. sunday is big familly dinner. Mon is, well what can I say she wants us to spend time together. Which if I am lucky could include another ride but it would be a shorter one. Oh and I beleive I my have managed to get friday off so I can get up early saturday. Edited October 6, 2011 by saddlebum

Rode Southwood in June and yes it was all tore up and they were doing a tar and chip thing. But this is Oct and all that should be done by now, could be a good time to find out.

Oh and I beleive I my have managed to get friday off so I can get up early saturday. That makes for a looong day, 6 hours to get there and you haven't done the park yet. Add about 2 hours for stops and that makes 8 hours, now you have to come back home. You'd best be off on Friday to rest up. From what Evan said, Algonquin is bare now anyways.
Evan Posted October 6, 2011 #89 Posted October 6, 2011 I would sure like to join you guys for whatever route but I am working at the cottage this week and committed to taking my grandkids to the Rockton Fair (billed as the world's largest fair) on Monday to see the horses.
Marcarl Posted October 6, 2011 Author #90 Posted October 6, 2011 Fall foliage colour in Algonquin Park has peaked. Heavy rain and some snow this week has increased leaf fall showing bare branches in the canopy especially in the western portion of the Highway 60 Corridor. Fall colour in the eastern portion of the Highway 60 Corridor and much of the later changing sections of the Park is still good. Red, orange and yellow are the dominant colours remaining in tree canopy. Good fall landscape viewing is currently possible and is expected to continue unless the Park receives extremely heavy rain, snow, or strong winds which might cause widespread leaf fall. See the latest fall colour images on Facebook.
saddlebum Posted October 6, 2011 #91 Posted October 6, 2011 Ok! 1st I have friday off so I am all set for an early start and a good long run Saturday. 2nd from the sounds of things my expectations are a little high and Algonquin parks leaf colour ship has sailed. 3rd Sounds like Marcarls route is a viable compromise. Unless someone has a better route. So who is in?.

Don't tell Marca!!Saturday is for sure with early start. I am still working on Monday for a second ride. There is a glimmer that if I play this right Marita may just be up for a ride Monday. Which of course means I get to ride again. Edited October 7, 2011 by saddlebum

BradT Posted October 7, 2011 #95 Posted October 7, 2011 Ben here is a route that I like but it is from our place and has quite a bit of highway. Obviously a little shorter from your place Brad
paysaw Posted October 7, 2011 #96 Posted October 7, 2011 Somebody pick a time and place!!! LOL I could be in for some of the ride. Ray
saddlebum Posted October 7, 2011 #97 Posted October 7, 2011 Ok final plans have been made see the following thread http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=628953#post628953
Marcarl Posted October 7, 2011 Author #98 Posted October 7, 2011 Is a ride planned for Monday the 10th as well or just Saturday? Monday I can make... not Saturday. :-( Wayne & Robin, Carl & Marca and Wayne says somebody else are all planning to go see some color,,, not sure where yet, but we plan an all day thing. We'll see what Thornbury looks like tomorrow.
Marcarl Posted October 7, 2011 Author #99 Posted October 7, 2011 Can you try that again in English?? Are the four (or is it 5?) planning to ride on Monday? If so... we are in ! Well that would be 3 (three) bikes so far, now you as well, that would make it 4 (four) bikes. Like I said, not sure where exactly we're going yet, hopefully will know after tomorrow's run, that is Oct 08 2011 ( October, eighth, two-thousand and eleven)

Sacrifices will have to made though . . . . . . Somehow I will have to manage to be a very good and well behaved boy . .....ALLLL day Sunday. . . . .I think I can ....I think I can. . . . Man that is going to be a vvvvvvery long Sunday
