BuddyRich Posted June 6, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 6, 2011 Two questions. Has anyone loaded an RSV into the bed of a F150 (04 thru 08) with the tailgate down using a ramp ? Did the tailgate take the weight of the bike and the rider without bending if so? Is there any reason you could not tow an RSV backwards in one of those one wheel Receiver hitch things with the rear wheel off the ground?
rumboogy Posted June 6, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 6, 2011 If towed backwards....I am assuming you'd pull the fairing off....otherwise that would not be good.
flb_78 Posted June 6, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 6, 2011 I hauled my 99 RSV in the back of my father's 96 F-250 and it bent the tailgate. I don't know how you could haul a RSV backwards because the steering lock holds the bars at an angle, not straight ahead. You could pull the final drive and remove the driveshaft though. etcswjoe Posted June 6, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 6, 2011 The late model pickups have weaker tailgate supports than the older ones so you need to keep the weight off of it. If you can bolt a rail in the bed so the weight is spread out you can ramp it up that way. The RSV buffets really bad on a open trailer so I cannot imagine towing it with one wheel on the ground. flb_78 Posted June 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted June 6, 2011 Yeah, that's a haul. You'll also be about 2.5 hours north of me. I bet one of our Texas members could loan you a trailer to haul the bike on.
Hummingbird Posted June 6, 2011 Share #10 Posted June 6, 2011 as already mentioned - a trailer would probably be the best solution or do what I did http://www.rampagelift.com/
flb_78 Posted June 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted June 6, 2011 $2800 will buy a very nice trailer!! If I had to haul my bike around enough to justify that kind of cash, I'd probably sell the bike because Im not riding it enough to justify having a bike!! Didn't you ever buy something just because you wanted it ? When a person has too many hobbies, combining makes it a lot easier. I'm still trying to figure out how I can get the Venture in the truck, the Travel Trailer on the hitch and the boat behind that.
Flyinfool Posted June 6, 2011 Share #13 Posted June 6, 2011 I'm still trying to figure out how I can get the Venture in the truck, the Travel Trailer on the hitch and the boat behind that. Just bolt a receiver hitch to the back bumper of the RV and go. Scary as it sounds, Ive seen RVs behind P/Us with boats behind the RV flyin down the interstates here in WI. Backing up is a blast. I once had to back up a P/U with 3 trailers chained behind it. That was fun.

I guess in Ohio I could tandem if the first one hooked to the truck is a fifth wheel - but if I do that , then I couldn't get the bike in the bed of the truck - oh well, maybe another toy
MikeWa Posted June 7, 2011 Share #20 Posted June 7, 2011 Buddy Perhaps a sheet of one inch plywood would reinforce that pickup truck. 2X4s to the frame before the back wheel and tie the front down tight. Also used open flat bed trailers are not very expensive in Texas. Resell it when you get back. If you shop careful you might even be able to turn a small profit. Very nice 6X12 enclosed cargo trailers can be had new for 2200 to about 2900 with tie downs and everything. Check e-bay for sales in Texas. Harbor Freight sells some pretty good front wheel chocks for under $50 that really help in a trailer or pickup. If worst comes to worst I think we have a flatbed (car hauler) trailer at the ranch near Waco we could let you use it. But you will have to go pick it up and bring it back when you are finished. Trader Posted June 7, 2011 Share #24 Posted June 7, 2011 Isn't it fairly easy to take the tailgate completely off?
Squidley Posted June 7, 2011 Share #25 Posted June 7, 2011 Isn't it fairly easy to take the tailgate completely off? You'd need the tailgate to support the bike, the RSV is 9ft + long.
