Red Rider Posted June 5, 2011 #1 Posted June 5, 2011 The handle feels like it's sticking a little on the pull in. Can I lube it and what shoud I use for it? And how do I do it.
BoomerCPO Posted June 5, 2011 #2 Posted June 5, 2011 Every now and then I spray the clutch lever mechanism with Carb Cleaner, wipe clean, and follow it up with WD-40...... Boomer....who sez you'll have a real problem if a pygmie runs off with the clutch lever....
muaymendez1 Posted June 6, 2011 #3 Posted June 6, 2011 My brake lever is doing the same thing. I found that flushing the fluid aides in making it work smoother. What color is your fluid?
Red Rider Posted June 6, 2011 Author #4 Posted June 6, 2011 Havn't looked at the fluid but I will now. Wont be riding for a week or so, vacation.. :cool10:
flb_78 Posted June 6, 2011 #5 Posted June 6, 2011 I know when it's time to change my front brake fluid when the handle feels "notchy" and the braking isn't smooth. You're probably feeling the same thing with your clutch.

You're probably feeling the same thing with your clutch. thats it exactly. NOTCHY. I squeeze the break and you get a lil pressure but you want more so you squeeze mor and the front dives because you gave it too much. Almost like a rusty tool clearing some of the rust when oiled up.
Bobby G Posted June 6, 2011 #7 Posted June 6, 2011 thats it exactly. NOTCHY. I squeeze the break and you get a lil pressure but you want more so you squeeze mor and the front dives because you gave it too much. Almost like a rusty tool clearing some of the rust when oiled up. Mine was exactly the same way on the brake side a few weeks ago, so we hit it with a little carb cleaner and some WD-40 as stated above, and tightened it all up and now it brakes very smooth. No more "notching". But if the fluids in the reserve windows look anything less than clear, it would be best to speed bleed them and replace with some new DOT 5.1.
muaymendez1 Posted June 6, 2011 #8 Posted June 6, 2011 My bike is the 96 tc so the manuals may be different but just reading mine it says to use DOT4 and use chain lube on pivot points every 4K miles. That includes brake and clutch lever pivot, foot brake pivot, sidestand, sidestand switch, shifter peadal,. Now that I have read this I think I will change my rear drive oil, and lube up the brake caliper as well.

And FYI, DOT 5.1 wasn't around in '96, but it withstands heat much better than its predecessors and is approved for the RSV. Just sayin....
muaymendez1 Posted June 7, 2011 #10 Posted June 7, 2011 OK I learned omething New. next time I ride through scorching heat Ill think about the brake fluid good enough for a racer. For now ill stick with what was recomended. LOL
Red Rider Posted June 7, 2011 Author #11 Posted June 7, 2011 Fluid is brown. I guess after my vacation I'll have to change that...

I didnt think it was supposed to look like this and it only took. approx 7 ounces of fluid and 20 min to flush and get the whole system clean. Clutch and brake. http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh221/muaymendez/IMAG0236.jpg
