Don't worry guys, I won't push it to hurting something again.:no-no-no:

But the Doc keeps making it sound like the MicroDiscectomy done 15 years ago doesn't allow good visibility and sometime parts of disc get left in. Failure rate bad enough that many insurance companies won't allow it anymore.

He says the Laminotomy procedure is done with only about a 1" longer inscision and allows much better visibility to remove and clean up all disc material sticking out.

He doesn't seem at all worried about the disc and spine area, only that the inscision heals up properly.

When I get riding, it will be short hops at first, just to see how things feel.:scratchchin:

Sure feels good to be home again though, crying grandson and all.:thumbsup2:

Might be a good idea to be sure you can make it back home also !!!

:backinmyday:

Gary

Ya, good idea. The plan all along (due to vacation time constraints) was to leave Friday night and get to MN. All day Sat and Sun and maybe some of Monday to get there. Spend a couple days checking out Yellowstone and the rally, and then having a few days to get back while checking out the Black Hills stuff also.

We'll see how things go, Scooter Bob

Glad to hear!! now take it easy and do what they tell ya !!

Have you been visiting the PT department?

Those pieces of equipment look more like modern versions of some medieval torturers tools.

I have to see the Doc for a follow up on the 5th of July. He said he'd decide then if any PT at all was needed.:confused24:

The biggest concern last time around was stretching out the hamstrings and other muscles that have been babied due to the leg pains. I'll probably work on stretching those out on my own after the wound gets healed up a little better.

Right now, there's only super glue holding it together, they pulled the staples right before I left this afternoon.:scratchchin:

To save me reading all the posts as you maybe said already, what disc was bad?

I want to ask my surgeon about the Laminotomy procedure, he is going to do a discectomy on my L4-L5 extrusion.

MRI is below, does mine sound close to what you had, other than previous fractures?

The issue you have at L4-L5 is similar to what I had at L5-S1. I also didn't have the other issues everywhere else.

The discectomy is the removal of the protruding disc. The other procedures are to access it.

To access the disc area the Laminectomy involves removal of the entire back part of the vertibrae to access the spinal column, the Laminotomy involves removal of only a small part of the vertibrae to gain access to the spinal column, and the micro discectomy removes none of the vertibrae and uses tiny microscope to see what they are doing.

Take a look at WEB MD for better info, and also an animation of the laminectomy procedure.

Best of luck to you Gary, Scooter Bob

Glad to see you are doing well. Back surgery has come a long way since Mom had hers in 88. Hope the recovery stays good and you're riding again shortly.

Boy, that Doctor is right on the money with this procedure, I think he may have done some before.:confused24:

Even though I had almost no pain or problems or took any drugs, he insisted I fill prescriptions for Valium and Vicaden.

I thought he was in cahoots with the drug companies.;)

He said in a couple days swelling of the thecal sac(nerve bundle) most likely would cause pain and muscle spasms.:scratchchin:

Dangit! he was right. I took a vicaden before bed last night, and a vicaden and a valium in the middle of the night. Walked out to the garage all right this morning, but when I headed back in, the spasms hit and now I'm stuck out here waiting for Karen to get up and help me back in the house.

Dont over do it Bob!!!

:buttkick:

All I did yesterday was put a 500 pc puzzle together in 3 hours.:innocent:

What gets me is how right he was. I was walking around 5 hours after surgery and all the next day, and feelin' great.:cool10:

Then :buttkick: Now I'm about as slow as I was when I went in Monday.

But, he said it would happen, and will go away soon.:thumbsup2:

Glad you are going to be back in the saddle soon, But as said before DO NOT OVER DO IT!!!!!!!! :no-no-no:

So did Karen help/let you back into the house?

Hmmm... maybe hand and/or ankle cuffs are in order to make sure you behave yourself ......
