I have a 4 day weekend this week. Been trying to decide what to do. We have decided to start the bike after work on Friday and head NW. Hoping to end up at MT Rushmore. So far our longest ride in a day has been 350 or so. We are starting prep as of 1 hr ago. The bike needs nothing but the GPS put on. So anything we should make sure we don't miss there? Best food? Neither of us have ever been there. Seems crazy to just head out without planning but thats half the fun right?

Wish us luck!!

No worse than I am. My daughter has given up on asking me where I'm going. The one word answer drives her nuts. It's either North, South, East or West. Sometimes I'll throw her curveball and shoot her a South South East.

I do send her a text now and then with my current location so at least she knows where I ended up at.

Don't forget to pack the wet suits. :smile5:

Enjoy your ride.

Those trips are best!I mostly look map and look where is nicest views and curves and then on the road.I installed my bike phone/navigator holder.Only nice thing is that i can´t answer the phone while riding.Just let it ring....:) Navi and music is only what i use.So there was my electronic free area then.Mu phone is Nokia N8 and there is all i need.Player, navi and phone. In here we have many camping areas so night place is easy to find. All i need is pair of clean boxers and toothbrush.Visa is allso good to take with.Have a nice trip and ride safely!BR Sam

Good luck on your trip, be safe and have fun.

It has been a lot of years since someone called me young.......

We were both so excited we had a hard time sleeping...haha

Thanks for the words of encouragement! We will learn a lot by winging it.

Will be updates as we go.

Those trips are the best. Did exactly that last weekend. Our planned trip did not work out, so Sunday morning I pointed it north and west out of Kansas City and ended up in your neck of the woods, in Wahoo, Nebraska for the night. Monday I fought some of the worst wind gusts I have ever had on a motorcycle, but ended up being a 561 mile ride.

When I purchased my 05RSV in Florida, I made one reservation, and that was for the first night. We flew in and after that we spent 10 days on the road, finding little Ma and Pa places to stay at, and we had a blast.

We'll be leaving the 18th heading to Colorado area, and doing the same for our lodging arrangements.

It's a fun way to travel, with no set place to be at a certain time.

Good luck and safe travels

Wahoo!?!? That had to be a few wrong turns in a row! haha

We were actually thinking about heading south but changed our mind last second. I will be heading down to Topeka for a dyno day in late August 27-28 and prob to KC for lunch or dinner at Los Corrals just for the hell of it SOON. Just thinking about it makes me hungry!

If we bring the bike that way I will hit you up for riding plans. :)

Yeah, Wahoo.... but that is the fun of it all. Off the beaten track places and towns. Anytime you head this way, hit me up.
