1BigDog Posted June 1, 2011 #1 Posted June 1, 2011 It never fails. At least for me. Murphy rears his ugly head again. Every year that we start a vacation week, something ALWAYS happens. It was bad enough that we wont be able to make MD this time again for various reasons, but....since were off anyway lets take a nice convertible top down drive along A1A at night. Great views, cool breezes and a nice restaurant in St Augustine. Get in the car and Click, click, click, click.......Battery dead. Just over 1 year old. Glad I had a 3 year free replacement warranty on it. On a Chrysler Sebring Convertible its a real big pain to swap batteries. You have to jack up and remove left front wheel and inner fender well to access the battery. Forgot to chock the rear wheels..(murphy is still lurking) Car starts to roll down the driveway as im laying under the front jacking up the floor jack. OH S***. Im holding on the jack while laying on my back, trying to turn the handle to let it back down. No such luck. Arm wants to pull out of its socket. And its still rolling downhill. I give it all I have and stop the car. Yell for the wife who is inside and cant hear me. (Murphy, you low life Ba*****!) One more hard twist on the jack handle and down it comes, finally. WHEW!! A few more inches and it would have hit a steeper part of the driveway and im sure my neighbor across the street would have wanted to know why my car is in her driveway. Now im laying on the hot concrete surface, my shoulder is throbbing, my knee is torqued wrong and its about 93 degrees out. After 10 minutes, im back up...drink 2 bottles of cold water and back at it. Remove inner front fender well to access the battery. Take it to the store for my free exchange. Had the wrong receipt. Had the one for my Trailblazer, but luckily they had purchase records in their system (Orielly auto). (wait, hes Irish too, maybe related to Murphy) After 20 minutes, I walk out with a new battery, install it, put it all back together, check with DMM and all is well again. Just a bad battery. This has happened before as well with other vacations. One year it was the water heater leaking. Still had warranty left so it was a freebie, but I still wasted a vacation day fooling with it. Another time it was the bikes battery. And so on..... Murphy has a way of popping up at the most inopportune times. Id say I hate the Irish but my wife is Irish, so....... But one thing is true...Murphy is a real #@$%#&*%$#@
SilvrT Posted June 1, 2011 #2 Posted June 1, 2011 I usually chalk those situation up to "there's a reason for everything" and oftentimes we never really know what the reason is.
Naked Rider Posted June 1, 2011 #3 Posted June 1, 2011 i know what your talking about been there and done that tired of the same ol crap all the time.
Rocket Posted June 2, 2011 #4 Posted June 2, 2011 Murphy has a way of popping up at the most inopportune times. But one thing is true...Murphy is a real #@$%#&*%$#@ During one of our breaks away from the bikes today, someone had cut the trailer wiring. So as a result I need to re-wire to the scoot in the morning, now that I have some crimp connectors. Yes Russ, I have my crimpers with me........

Yama Mama Posted June 2, 2011 #6 Posted June 2, 2011 Well Ruffy, that was pretty have had scarey. I am glad it worked out well. I know we have had the same Murphy guy visiting us here lately. First of all, I move sometimes a little too quickly at work. Monday a week ago, I was trying to clean up a blood spill from a nosebleed, before a kid walked in it at school and I went down faster than if I were skating on ice. I hit my head on the counter and landed face down on the floor. Hurt both knee, my left forearm, my left side of my face and busted my glasses. I had to get stitches near my left eye. I who was never absent from work, was off for 3 days. Then the same week, our son was rear ended in our Camry, his was not hurt, but our car is totaled. I am afraid to know what is next. Of course, this is my last day before my vacation. Yama Mama:223:

Guest Posted June 3, 2011 #8 Posted June 3, 2011 Wow Peg, hope your feeling better soon. Murphy lives all around us. As far as that Irish miscreant goes, hes still lurking. Last night while coming home from St Augustine I lost about 40% of my hearing in my right ear and some distortion in my left ear. Went to the Dr today and he said I have a really bad ear infection in my right ear and a small one in my left ear. I may also have ruptured my right ear drum. I have to see an ear specialist in the AM. This should be interesting.
