Dave77459 Posted May 31, 2011 #2 Posted May 31, 2011 (edited) Here you go, a page from the service manual. Removing the fuel tank Rider Seat (remove it) 1. Top Cover 2. Fuel tank breather hose 3. Fuel sender lead coupler 4. Fuel hose (turn to off first!!) 5. Fuel tank (two front bolts and one back, under seat) It takes me about 5 minutes on my RSTD. gibvel Posted May 31, 2011 #3 Posted May 31, 2011 Turn Petcock to off position. Disconnect hose (over container) and drain fuel remaining in hose. Pull 2 bolts out of Ignition switch cover on top of tank. Pull cover off. Disconnect fuel level sensor plug and vent hose. Move headset connection cable out of the way (hang it from the handlebars or something) Remove seat Remove bolt at seat end of tank. Remove 2 bolts (1 one either side) front of tank. Depending on how much fuel is left you may want to get someone to help you lift the tank off and place it gently out of the way. That's pretty much all there is to it.
Guest Posted May 31, 2011 #4 Posted May 31, 2011 Looks like those other two got it pretty well covered. And yea, that tank is really heavy with 5+ gallons in it. One small tip when you re-install the tank. Those rubber bolt covers on the front/sides of the tank will go back on much easier if you first apply a little dishwasher soap to the little tabs/prongs that push through the mounting surface. Doing it dry makes it harder. (oh, sheesh, hope this isnt misconstrued and censored)
