Condor Posted November 30, 2007 #1 Posted November 30, 2007 Finally got the 91VR home this afternoon. There was some question about the black/gray paint scheme being the original color. I thought it was probably a repaint since evey other 91 I've seen....I think??... is dk.blue on lt.blue. So tell me what you think... The tag on the frame member is gone so I couldn't get the manufacture date. The bike still needs a lot of TLC, but nothing that can't be handled. I think it might have been a Venture Line display bike with all the chrome hanging off of it. The only ding in the plastic is below the right mirror. Luckly it's in the black paint and easy to repair and touch up. I'm looking forward to making it a show piece. Corbin seat and backrest, chrome radiator cover, polished out risers and passenger floorboards, polished out engine covers, woodgrained dash and ignition cover, and lots of Lemon Pledge. Engine runs strong, and brakes and clutch are good. WoooHooo!!!!
Freebird Posted November 30, 2007 #2 Posted November 30, 2007 Very nice bike but I DO think it is a repaint. If so, it appears that they did a very nice job though.
Guest Ken8143 Posted November 30, 2007 #3 Posted November 30, 2007 It already looks like a show piece! Nice buy - Ken
Squidley Posted November 30, 2007 #4 Posted November 30, 2007 I do believe that this bike is an original color Wayne (WTHO) has an identical color scheme on his.
Condor Posted November 30, 2007 Author #5 Posted November 30, 2007 Very nice bike but I DO think it is a repaint. If so, it appears that they did a very nice job though. Yeah, I thought so too Don, but dang it's a nice job if it is. I can't find a blem anywhere....so far.... No runs, no drips, no errors... It's definately a one'r...
Eck Posted December 1, 2007 #6 Posted December 1, 2007 Yeah, I thought so too Don, but dang it's a nice job if it is. I can't find a blem anywhere....so far.... No runs, no drips, no errors... It's definately a one'r... Well, I dont know much about a 1st gen, and I noticed that you have not heard from REDNECK yet, so .. I guess we will just have to wait till the 1st gen combatant has spoken (The bike looks very clean ... Condor)
Guest HdHtr Posted December 1, 2007 #7 Posted December 1, 2007 Nice Jack ... mines a 91 ... so you've seen one of a different color!!
Fvogt Posted December 1, 2007 #8 Posted December 1, 2007 Jack that was the color of the most popular of the 91's sold. Steve and I have the left overs from 1990 Fred
hipshot Posted December 1, 2007 #10 Posted December 1, 2007 jack! you can't be posting pics, like that , on this sight! don't you know, a lot of the 2 genners, who didn't know any better, when they "plopped down the cash" ,now will be scouring the country-side ,looking for a 1st gen. "cause they are so much prettier than a 2 gen, and thy run faster too!!!!! just jt oh, and i almost forgot! DAMN,. that's a good lookin' bike!!!! congrats!
BuddyRich Posted December 1, 2007 #11 Posted December 1, 2007 JACK !!!! HOW MANY 1ST GENS U Got now ???:rotf:
lonestarmedic Posted December 1, 2007 #13 Posted December 1, 2007 I looked at a bunch of 1st Gens. before I got Mocha. I saw 3 in the black/grey. All were 1991-1992. They were all original paint. You got a real winner there. Elbow grease and wax will make it shine. The floorboards are Ventureline. Last set on E-bay went for almost $500.00. I want a set but not THAT bad!!. Looking forward to the before and after pictures. J.B.
BOO Posted December 1, 2007 #14 Posted December 1, 2007 Nice bike, I always liked that color and it was one I would have liked to have. But when you buy used you have to take what is available. Nice lights and chrome, there are a couple of things missing but not much. Did you know that Yamaha had a Venture line pin stripping set? Very very nice though, Jerry
sarges46 Posted December 1, 2007 #15 Posted December 1, 2007 That is gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous! Thats a stock color, I am sure I have seen it before. Man that thing is sweet and in good shape it seems. 91-black/grey and graceful maroon 92/93-two tone blue and black/grey (europe)
Condor Posted December 1, 2007 Author #16 Posted December 1, 2007 Nice Jack ... mines a 91 ... so you've seen one of a different color!! Steve- Thought yours was a '90...... ??? Oh well, I guess I have seen a different color. I do like that maroon.
BradT Posted December 1, 2007 #17 Posted December 1, 2007 We do not see to many late 80 or 90's around here, but thought that was the 86 colour. Nice looking anyway. Brad
Grandpagak Posted December 1, 2007 #18 Posted December 1, 2007 great lookin machine !!!!congrats....:thumbsup2:
CrazyHorse Posted December 1, 2007 #19 Posted December 1, 2007 How many 1st Gens do you have now? Maroon is the sweetest of all.
Lone Eagle Posted December 1, 2007 #20 Posted December 1, 2007  WAY TO GO, JACK. NOW, JUST BE CAREFUL RIDING THAT PUPPY DOWN TO THE MEET AND EAT TOMORROW MORNING - IT'S GONNA BE RATHER "BRISK". AND DON'T GO SELLING ANY PARTS - YOU GOT A GREAT LOOKING BIKE.
86er Posted December 1, 2007 #21 Posted December 1, 2007 Good job, Jack! Verrrrrrrry Nice! Now you're going to have to set up another Mac buy! And you thought you were done with that!
GigaWhiskey Posted December 1, 2007 #22 Posted December 1, 2007 What's your address and when will you or anyone not be there, anywhere around that bike. There are some parts on that bike I am interested in. BTW, Nice!!!
Guest Popeye Posted December 1, 2007 #24 Posted December 1, 2007 That's a beautiful scoot. I couldn't figure color of my 86VR, so I asked on here. I knew it was original & black & 'sumpthin' [looks silvery-bronze to me]; turns out it's some kind of 'gold'. Can't beat the black, or other dark colors to go with chrome. With those front floorboards, I'd sure need a set of hiway pegs to go any distance. Pegs & backrest are my 2 favorite options. BradT; Here is pic of 86 color, if you ignore the pinstriping & graphics:
Condor Posted December 1, 2007 Author #25 Posted December 1, 2007 I do believe that this bike is an original color Wayne (WTHO) has an identical color scheme on his. Thanks for finding that Brad. I guess there is another color combo available in '91 that isn't on the list, because this one sure doesn't have anything blue in it. And I guess it isn't a repaint....
