My bike insurance policy is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and I received the renewal notice (from Dairyland) a couple of weeks ago. It was $338.50. I then noticed that since I bought the Goldwing and sold my Venture a few weeks ago that I had failed to drop the insurance on Venture. So I called my agent and took care of dropping the old bike. Last week I get a new policy renewal for the single bike and noticed that my rate had been lowered to the single bike rate. They dropped it $2.39. I thought someone made a mistake. Surely I couldn't insure a second bike for $2.39. So I called the agent and she said there must be some mistake. She put in a call to Dairyland and their explanation was that I lost my multi-bike discount and the rate was correct. She still thought that was bogus so she shopped the same coverage with other companies and came back with a rate of $210 from American Home. I've never heard of them but she recommended them and said that was who she had her bike insured with. So, I'll be switching insurance soon.

FYI, Progressive was $389.

There is a discount for having more than one bike on a policy. The strangest thing I had to happen was when a custome that had three bikes insured called to delete one of them. The rate went up significantly so I called the company to make sure the rate was correct and it was so I left the bike on the policy until renewal. It doesn't make sense but the way the policy was rated made the rate go up.

Were you listed as the only driver for both bikes? Then maybe the policy only covered them one at a time since you were the only driver instead of two separate policies were both bikes would be on the road at the same time. :2cents:

My 2-bike policy with Progressive is up for renewal on May 29. The annual cost is $917! I sent my coverages to Allstate (with whom I have my house and cars), and they came back with a total cost of $429, with a lower deductible. Needless to say, I'm switching. Allstate used to be so expensive, but my agent tells me they have totally revamped their underwriting guidelines for motorcycles and are far more competitive now. I'll say!

And, I just got my Allstate Good Driver rebate in the mail yesterday - - $102.24! Time for a little accessories shopping!! :cool10:

I'm going to have to shop around. I'm paying over $1000 for my bike with liability, comprehensive and collision with multiple discount and good driver. I wonder if its because I'm in NJ.

Hey Dennis,

If you would put my bike on your insurance policy, I'll pay the $2.39 for you...

I wonder if we could get a Venturerider.org "group' policy....? :confused24:

Where you live, even within the same state, can have a big impact on rates. My buddy one town over, which is far more populated than my town, pays quite a lot more than I do. Likelyhood of accidents and theft is apparently higher so you are charged accordingly.

My insurance is going up this year. The only explanation is that it is the nation rates that are going up and everyone is getting the increase. I am looking into other insurance companies now. But all I have is basic and am still paying almost $300 a year. Shaun
