Flyinfool Posted May 20, 2011 #1 Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) This could be a wrinkle in the plans. The boss has a FUBARed foot. (no it was not from having to kick me in the a$$...............again..............) There is a whole hardware store in that foot now, with 4 broken toes, that have long pins that go in the tip of the toe and run almost to the ankle to hold all of the pieces lined up, and a few screws for good measure that will be permanent. The pins should come out in about 8 weeks. She spent 4 hours in surgery getting all of the parts lined up. The prognosis is for a full recovery and back to kicking my tail by the end of summer. I'll have to see if she is going to be ambulatory enough to handle letting the dog out and taking care of herself with me gone for a weekend. It does not look good at the moment. I really wanted to make it to my first Freebird MD, but if mama needs me I will stay home. Edited May 20, 2011 by Flyinfool
painterman67 Posted May 20, 2011 #2 Posted May 20, 2011 prayers sent for your wife...........been there before myself healwell and godspeed avid
Yammer Dan Posted May 20, 2011 #3 Posted May 20, 2011 Do what you need Jeff but have hope. By then they should be a accepted thing. She will be able to move around a lot better. I had those about 1972 and they aren't any fun the 1st couple of weeks but do get a lot more comfortable after a while. I rode a bike then with a string tied around the shifter to go up thru the gears. Could stomp them down with my heel but upshifting was rough.
Reddog170 Posted May 20, 2011 #4 Posted May 20, 2011 So you wont be getting you but kicked all summer? You might get spoiled, LOL. Prayers for you wife and hope she heals quickly. But on a plus side she now has good reason for you to bring her breakfast in bed daily. Shaun
calperin Posted May 20, 2011 #5 Posted May 20, 2011 Hey, with all that hardware on place, did you try to attach the bike hitch with the refrigerator??? At least with that you will not miss the bike riding.... :rotf::rotf::rotf:
Yammer Dan Posted May 20, 2011 #6 Posted May 20, 2011 So you wont be getting you but kicked all summer? You might get spoiled, LOL. Prayers for you wife and hope she heals quickly. Flyinfool Posted May 20, 2011 Author #7 Posted May 20, 2011 Thanks to all for your well wishes. So you wont be getting you but kicked all summer? You might get spoiled, LOL. Prayers for you wife and hope she heals quickly. But on a plus side she now has good reason for you to bring her breakfast in bed daily. Shaun She says I am already spoiled, rotten, so therefor I can not GET spoiled. It has already been decided long ago that she does not like the way I make breakfast. Her loss. Hey, with all that hardware on place, did you try to attach the bike hitch with the refrigerator??? At least with that you will not miss the bike riding.... :rotf::rotf::rotf: I'll have to work on that one I think she got TWO feet!!:whistling: And it takes two good feet to land a kick in the butt. Besides, now I can out run/walk her........ Now I just need to figure out how to explain to a woman, with no concept of physics, that already knows everything, that even a "giant" Mercury Mountaineer does NOT have tonnage over everything on the road, especially cement trucks. You just can not even try to push them around. On a better note she is feeling better each day. But it will still be a long slow heal. I'm sure it will get worse before it gets better, especially when she gets home and has to deal with a walker and steps.
Yammer Dan Posted May 21, 2011 #8 Posted May 21, 2011 It will get worse at 1st Jeff but it will turn around. Just listen to the doc.
Scooter Bob Posted May 21, 2011 #9 Posted May 21, 2011 Jeff, send her best wishes from Karen and I. Later, Scooter Bob
Flyinfool Posted May 21, 2011 Author #10 Posted May 21, 2011 It will get worse at 1st Jeff but it will turn around. Just listen to the doc. Now that would be a very novel idea for her, she is the worst I have ever seen at following docs (or anyone's) instructions. But I have a plan, I put a Stainless ball bearing into the bandages under the bottom of the good part of her foot so that it is very painful to try to walk on it. Shhhhh, don't tell her. So at least for now she is now using the walker to get around. The real challenge will come on the 31st when she come home and does not have someone there to keep yelling at her to stay off the foot.
wkoepke Posted May 22, 2011 #11 Posted May 22, 2011 best wishes from heidi and i. if she's anything like heidi she will have to learn on her own, you have know idea what she is going through:whistling:. good luck, bill
Flyinfool Posted June 19, 2011 Author #12 Posted June 19, 2011 Last night at 7:30 I took Erika into the ER cuz her foot was really hurting. As soon as the doc looked at it they said she had to go right to Freidert. So off to Freidert we went. Freidert is a huge medical complex that is supposed to have some of the best experts. They said her foot is very badly infected possibly with a bone infection also. still waiting for tests on that part. At about 1:00 this morning they admitted her, she might be there for a few days till they can get the infection beat down. They are pouring in some Heavy Duty drugs via a IV. She will see a specialist and the ortho surgeon tomorrow/later today. Ya she was bad and did not follow either the Drs or my instructions. I think I called that one, and yes I told her so, repeatedly. When this does get cleared up, i will give her a hug and a kiss and a kick in the A$$.
Snaggletooth Posted June 19, 2011 #13 Posted June 19, 2011 Dang Jeff, some people will do anything for a night out. But I do hope she can get that cleared up quickly. Mike
Scooter Bob Posted June 19, 2011 #14 Posted June 19, 2011 Wishing Erika the best on a speedy recovery. And Jeff, go easy on her buddy, I'm pretty sure a bunch of "I told you so's" won't fix an infection. Later, Scooter Bob and Karen
Yama Mama Posted June 19, 2011 #15 Posted June 19, 2011 I am sorry to hear about the infection. I hope she is not in too much pain and it clears up soon. That is really tough. Yama Mama
IH Truck Guy Posted June 19, 2011 #16 Posted June 19, 2011 Wow Jeff, hope they get Erika healed up real quick...
DragonRider Posted June 19, 2011 #17 Posted June 19, 2011 2 years ago my wife had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree burns on both feet from spilling boiling water on them. She was laid up for some time and the recovery was painfull ;for the both of us, I had to nurse her wounds 2-3 times a day and be her nurse 24/7. I know you will be doing the same for your wife, we wish her a speedy and full recovery.
Flyinfool Posted June 19, 2011 Author #18 Posted June 19, 2011 Well after a day of massive drugs, the foot does not look any better to my eye. All of the docs she needs to see were off today, go figure. Tomorrow the doc that did the surgery and an infection specialist will be checking her out to see how much if any damage there is.
Trader Posted June 20, 2011 #19 Posted June 20, 2011 Hope she has a speedy recovery...and this time hope she will listen to the docs! They do know better than we do. I broke my leg right behind the knee cap. I had a cast from ankle to crotch. 2 days after I got the cast I was walking across the room on it...figured the cast was suppporting all the weight. When my wife told the doc he FREAKED!!!!! Well.....he never said not to!
Flyinfool Posted June 20, 2011 Author #20 Posted June 20, 2011 I almost think she uses the list of don'ts from the doc and just has to try each one to see if she can get away with it. I have never seen anyone as bad at following a docs or anyone else's directions. AAARRRrrrrrrrgggggggg..............
Flyinfool Posted June 23, 2011 Author #21 Posted June 23, 2011 Well she is back home today. The pins did not come out like they were supposed to. They did not want to pull the pins because removing the pins would have left a deep hole for the infection to get to the inside of the bones. That would not be good. The infection is not fully cleared up but it is looking a lot better now than it did last week. Pin removal has been rescheduled for Friday morning. Once the pins are out, then it is just the final healing of the pin holes and getting the mussels to work again. But at least once the pins are out she can and is supposed to be walking on it. 3 Days after pin removal she can then let it get wet.
Yammer Dan Posted June 23, 2011 #22 Posted June 23, 2011 It took a while for me to learn. Don't listen to the Docs so you can do it all over again!!! I got tired of that!!! Not fun going backwards. Cost me a operation to replace all the steel they put in.
oldgoat Posted June 23, 2011 #23 Posted June 23, 2011 sorry to hear about the little womans foot, im a little late sending prayers. but one will be offered up for her to heal well and one for you putting up with a stubborn woman LOL
