csogbk Posted May 20, 2011 #1 Posted May 20, 2011 Anyone coming to DC for this? If so I'd love to see if we could get together for lunch and you'd be more than welcome to ride with myself, the missus and a couple others. As always, I have a guest room as well if lodging is an issue as long as you don't mind dogs! Csogbk
Bobby G Posted May 20, 2011 #2 Posted May 20, 2011 Heading up from GA with several others (I'm the only RSV!), and staying with family in the Fairfax area. Pretty packed agenda already, but thanks for the offer. Wish I could be in 6 places at once on this trip, with so much to see and do. Praying for nice weather. Thanks, and enjoy the ride!
Sylvester Posted May 20, 2011 #3 Posted May 20, 2011 Like Bobby said, it is a event packed weekend. I only see many of these people once a year and it is whirlwind of going here and there plus the rides to the monuments and all. Thanks for the invitation.
BEER30 Posted May 21, 2011 #4 Posted May 21, 2011 Hey Sylvester, Where will you be staged at in the P-Lot ? I'll most likely be around the same place as usual, up front near the bus stand, right behind National. Of course, patrolling the aisles, looking for trouble-makers and eyeing the candy, LOL ! BEER30
bostonlawman2003 Posted May 21, 2011 #5 Posted May 21, 2011 Like the others said, I'll be there but the weekend is packed from start to finish with activities. I too am coming in with a group (8 of us) and I am the only RSV in the group.
Bobby G Posted May 31, 2011 #6 Posted May 31, 2011 Got safely home last night around 6pm after staying the night in Roanoke after the ride was over. Just an overwhelming and humbling experience to have made this trip to honor our Heroes and Veterans. Did just about everything I'd hoped to do while up there, including visiting The Wall and a few other monuments, and spending several hours walking Arlington National Cemetery to visit some of Georgia's finest who are buried there. Also witnessed the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and the burial place of JFK. Those scenes will literally take your breath away. I also visited all of the vendors on Thunder Ally and got some awesome pins and patches. The RSV performed great all the way, including the Iron Butt ride on Thursday - - left Marietta GA at 0600 and arrived in Fairfax VA at 8pm. 681 miles - - my longest single day ride ever. I even beat several storm fronts that were moving in my direction pretty much all day Thursday. What a ride! Total ride by the time I got home last night was 1,556 miles. Met a few Venture riders there from CT and VA, but not too many were to be found. The H-D Ultra Classic was the dominate bike there by a long shot. But at least I didn't overheat like a few of them did! LOL! Time to clean the scoot. It's about as disgustingly filthy as it's ever been..... Check out some of my pics in the Picture Folder forum.
BEER30 Posted May 31, 2011 #7 Posted May 31, 2011 Made it home as well Monday around 3:30 pm. Had lots of fun, and work are arses off . I even made it on the national news, http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/video/palin-roars-washington-motorcycle-13717645 , look for the BEER in 30 and 42 sec slot as I was on security duty. Met the Palins, Sec. of Defense Gates and mike Mullen Chairman of Joint Cheifs of Staff. Also visited the DC VA Hospital , where we sang songs with our veterans and met Mal Whitfield, USAF, 5 Medal Olympian, Tuskegee Airman to add a small attributes to achievement in both Civilian and Military career. Also had a short visit with JRichard and Patricia. BEER30
Sylvester Posted May 31, 2011 #8 Posted May 31, 2011 I arrived at "mi casa" at 4:30 Monday. Total emotional drain and planning for next year. I have done this ride for many years and I always feel like I can never do it again. These MIAs and POWs and KIAs need our reverence. As long as I can, I will do this ride to honor our military.
kj4v Posted May 31, 2011 #9 Posted May 31, 2011 I was looking at Rolling Thunder pictures ans saw the back half of a 04 white Venture with an American flag on it. Was this one of ours?
Sylvester Posted May 31, 2011 #10 Posted May 31, 2011 I was looking at Rolling Thunder pictures ans saw the back half of a 04 white Venture with an American flag on it. Was this one of ours? There were many Ventures there and many other makes also. In the neighborhood of 1,000,000.
