vicco27 Posted May 17, 2011 #1 Posted May 17, 2011 I need information as to how our triked '89 Venture Royale is going to react at mountain pass elevations exceeding 9000 ft. I know I will have some loss of power. Am I going to have to worry about overheating or burning a piston if I pay attention and take it easy?
Shamue Posted May 17, 2011 #2 Posted May 17, 2011 use regular unleaded (86 octaneor so) at high elevations, if at sea level higher grades (90 octane plus) may help if performance is questionable. remember to use the lower gears. i ride the rockies all the time and never had a real problem, just down shift.
OB-1 Posted May 18, 2011 #3 Posted May 18, 2011 Just keep the RPM up and don't lug the engine and you'll be fine. Your bike will be running rich in the higher elevations. It's not a big deal.
GaryZ Posted May 18, 2011 #4 Posted May 18, 2011 Running "rich" at elevation means it actually runs cooler . . .
Condor Posted May 18, 2011 #5 Posted May 18, 2011 In '09 I rode the '83 over BearTooth Pass and it didn't miss a beat.... 11,000 feet
