flb_78 Posted August 24, 2011 Share #26 Posted August 24, 2011 One comment though.... how the liners zip in and fasten with loops and snaps makes sense and is easy to do... but make sure you put them in/out before having to do it in a hurry. First time can be a bit confusing. I just wear the liner separately under the jacket.
Sylvester Posted August 24, 2011 Share #27 Posted August 24, 2011 RIDE NAKED! That ought to be cool enough. Or get a big umbrella like on a farm tractor and mount it on your bike. Other than that there is no comfortable hot weather jacket...only cool/cold weather jacket whether mesh or otherwise.
rosebud Posted August 24, 2011 Share #28 Posted August 24, 2011 I wear a Joe Rocket textile jacket for spring and fall in Oklahoma, but during the summer Phil and I both switch over to our OSI jackets - great mesh - much better air flow than others we looked at. It's good until around 94 degrees and after that around here you'd want a cooling vest.
sarges46 Posted August 24, 2011 Share #29 Posted August 24, 2011 I would love to have a mesh jacket but most are at LEAST $150 and I won't pay that for a jacket. No way. Remember, I live in Canada. It's rare to see anything motorcycle related even slightly reasonably priced here. I have a Joe Rocket jacket that is sorta mesh but it's way too warm in the summer for me. I'm in t-shirt and shorts most days these days with my ivory colored leather vest over top and sneakers. Safe? Nope. Tolerable and not dying of the heat? Yup. You need to check out motorcyclegear.com They used to be called NewEnough. They are a rated seller for us. They also have a bargain basement that us Canadian bikers find hard to resist given what our dealers what for "their" stuff. I also believe they ship USPS which is what you want. Excellent folks to deal with and I have bought many items from them.

pa_don Posted August 25, 2011 Share #31 Posted August 25, 2011 Original mesh jacket was a Power-trip silver & black w/ liner. Liner was not for rain just to cut air flow so you still needed some sort of rain gear to keep dry. GREAT airflow in 90 degree+! Would still have it but zipper finally gave out after many years of service. Replaced with a Joe Rocket (Phoenix 5.0). I wanted to bight yellow/green on black but couldn't get it at the time so I have all black. Good air flow. Liner is both for air flow and rain. Works as advertised. Now for the good stuff... the reason we even wear jackets in HOT weather... PROTECTION! Some may remember I went down last July 4th in Yellowstone. Totaled my '99 and got banged up pretty good... VERY long ride to Cody in the back of an ambulance strapped to "the board". Details? RJ air helmet - surface scratches but definitely had micro fractures all over.... Pants were First Gear (Mesh-tech 2 over pants) - only has some minor road rash on left leg that took most lower body impact... NO rips, tears penetrations. Hip padding did its job well! Mesh HD gloves - road rash in palms and seam rips on several figures but no skin damage! The Jacket ??? The Joe Rocket ... Took the worst of it... I slid on my upper left side at impact ... several seams ripped open on left arm, cuff & shoulder... BUT... I had NO damage to my street clothes or skin! The jacket did more than its job... That’s why I bought another... Some say it’s just too hot! Mesh actually helps keep you cooler by minimizing the amount of fluid evaporation from the air whipping across exposed skin surface.... Not to preach as we all have our own ideals but remember... dress for the fall, that way when it happens you’re prepared! pa_don
sKiZo Posted August 25, 2011 Share #32 Posted August 25, 2011 I have the silver mesh and it's comfortable up to the mid eighties. Don't cinch the cuffs and just zip it up enough to stop any flap and you're good to go. I wish I could find a mesh helmet to match ... For me, it's all about hiding from the sun. I got a killer sunburn crossing Indiana the long way a few years back. Did you know you can catch shingles that way? If you've had chicken pox, the virus never really leaves your system and any major skin trauma can cause the bug to come out and mutate. Since then, it's SPF 85 and the mesh. Ditto on removing the lumbar pad in the back. The rest are OK. BTW - that pad is quite the conversation piece if you leave it laying about. Half the people break out laughing, and the other half cover their kiddie's eyes. Anyone who's seen one knows what I'm talking about. The sizes do run a little strange - I had to get 2x to fit the shoulders and arm length, but the velcro adjusters at the waist left it real loose. I could get them sized ok, but ended up having to staple them in place. Granted, not much of an issue for of us.
Mr.G Posted August 25, 2011 Share #33 Posted August 25, 2011 And again for the tourmaster mesh. First year for mine and I find it really nice at 70 degrees or hotter. Used it it in 90 degree weather on a long ride. Worked perfectly
