Godlover Posted May 7, 2011 #1 Posted May 7, 2011 My 07 has 1500 miles on it and yesterday I noticed a noise that sounds like the old dry speedometer in the old cars. I notice it most when I slow down but if I listen closely I can hear it riding around town. I really would like to take it on a 150 mile ride later today to meet the kids for Mother's Day supper but now I'm not sure. I jacked it up and spun the tire and didn't hear it. Any ideas?
Godlover Posted May 7, 2011 Author #2 Posted May 7, 2011 I just remembered that I did hit a pretty good bump on Thursday - wondering if I bent an axle?
Marcarl Posted May 7, 2011 #3 Posted May 7, 2011 I just remembered that I did hit a pretty good bump on Thursday - wondering if I bent an axle? Possibility, but not likely,,, more likely dry splines in my opinion.
LilBeaver Posted May 7, 2011 #4 Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) Have you greased up the rear end pins - I forget what they are called, but I seem to remember the 'clicking/crunching' being associated with the 6 (or so) pins that go into the rear wheel from the differential. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=15576&postcount=1 Here check this out. If that is the case then this should be under warranty. I will have to take it in to a dealer. Thanks
LilBeaver Posted May 7, 2011 #6 Posted May 7, 2011 If that is the case then this should be under warranty. I will have to take it in to a dealer. Thanks That would work. If it were me and I 1) had the time and 2) had it up on the lift already, I'd just pop that rear wheel off do the lube, check the adjustment and if it fixed it great if it didn't then take it in (and you would know that it is properly greased in there). Regardless though, I concur that it is something that the warranty should take care of, no question about it.

I had like a clicking noise and had just changed the rear tire and came on here and found out that when you change the tire you need to loosen up the bolts put the wheel on then tighten them. Problem solved.
FuzzyRSTD Posted May 15, 2011 #8 Posted May 15, 2011 Yep, you need to grease rear gears and splines. My bike did the same while on a 1200 mile ride somewhere around North Carolina. Lucky there was a dealer that took my bike straight in and I got to watch him do it. Really not a biggy. Just finished mine a few minutes ago. I have done mine three times so far, 12000 miles. I only did that many times because I replaced the Brickstone junk tires (4000 miles and rear gone, front not good either) in between that time frame. Replaced with Avon Venom tires, highly recommend them too (8000 miles and still look great) ride like a dream. So while had rear wheel off, did the grease. You need some Honda Molly 30 lube to do it correctly.
