So, a man rides out of a dealership....

Did they make a determination as to the cause of the meltdown, or are you not able to say?

The "official" suspected cause is a stuck needle valve flooding the cylinder and causing hydrolock. At that time, the piston rod was damaged, and although it lasted some indeterminate amount of time, it ultimately failed.

That's the official theory.

The secondary issue then is the stuck needle valve. They claim it is a maintenance item, and its stuckedness would then be my fault. My counter contention is that if it is a maintenance item, then there should be a maintenance schedule for it. And there isn't. So. This is the root for the fear that Yamaha might retroactively de-authorize the warranty claim; it has happened, unless the dealer is a bald-faced and skilled liar, as asserted above.

Glad to hear you gotta her back. Now lets do lunch next week at Sam's Boat. We can park in the Harley spots.:clap2:

That sounds good! Let's make it so.

Congrats Dave!! :cool10::cool10:Glad you got you Roxie back, but now that you got Roxie back its probably going to rain. Hopefully not though.

:fingers-crossed-emo

That would be a good thing. We are in a desperate drought here, and I'll take a bullet for the team. Besides, I have good raingear and an RSTD is nowhere as wet as an RSV.

Glad to hear everything worked out and it was covered under warranty. Loose battery cable can definitely cause a backfire. Been there done that.

Well, darn it, tightening the battery cable didn't help. It backfires loudly and consistently when I decelerate. Luckily, I rarely do that! :whistling:

Bring it by the house Dave and we'll put a carb sync on it, and check to make sure they hooked the AIS up correctly. Saturday afternoon, if Dana concurs, I'll be doing some bike maintenance after I get home from work.
