muaymendez1 Posted May 5, 2011 #1 Posted May 5, 2011 My buddy has a 99 venture and he just loves gooosing the throttle. so much that it started slipping on him. I said I would do the work but i cant seem to find the clucth kit. the stealer wants$350 for the kit. Does anyone know where I can buy a clutch kit without giving my buddy a heart attack. Any suggestions as well. i think his clucth has to be bled because my 96 feel firmer than his so that may be part of the problem.

It may not be the clutch but just the clutch spring. I have 39,000 miles on mine and it started slipping in 4th and 5th gear and I just change my clutch spring to the Barnett cluthc spring conversion and it stopped slipping, shifts smoother and the clutch basket noise is gone. it is a little stiffer on the pull at the lever but nothing bad.
RedRider Posted May 5, 2011 #3 Posted May 5, 2011 Skydoc17 here on the forum has the clutch kit and an improved spring. I agree with Rick though, it is likely just the spring. Take it apart (easy to do) and mic the parts. Don't have your buddy ride it to much without taking care of this. The slipping will blue the steels and they will need to be replaced. RR
muaymendez1 Posted May 6, 2011 Author #4 Posted May 6, 2011 Thi started last year . All from what He has told me. It began to slip when he jerked te throttle in third and now it happens if he ants to pass in 5th. He spoke to a shop when he hadtires put on and the told him that if he were to stop jerking the throttle so hard he wouldnt haveproblems. He has been riding more conservative and hasnt noticed the slipping. He wants it squared away and the shop wants to sodomize him for thw work and parts. On the other hand he has a nice back rest which I wanna get my mitts on. I do the work he compensates me enough to get my flanders bars and I get a backrest in the process. I thnk i will get thekit from skydoc aong with friction plates. This along with valve adjustment and replacing his leaky valve cover gaskets should priove to be interesting
jburrell Posted May 6, 2011 #5 Posted May 6, 2011 Skip all the rest and just get the sping. I have a 99 and his symptom points to the spring. By a new spring and just add it and he will be fine. Did mine 99 13k miles ago @ 54k and not an issue since. Have heloped others and the fplates and steel plates were all fine. Its almost impossible to wear out these friction plates and steel plates. Ask anubody here....just use the spring and it will be a quick easy cheep fix that is all that is needed. Seen many buy the plates to only realise they did not need them so easy even a caveman could do it. just my
