Well according to the dealer my first HD Ultra was built today. I think they are built in PA at the plant that did not lay off. I guess I'll see next week when the dealer said it would be shipped.

Ken I test rode a 07 Ultra a few months ago when I was shopping for a new ride. It's a good thing you live in OH because here in TX the Ultra is a very hot ride when your in traffic. The salemen even told me it would be before I test rode it. Harley has had so many complaints on the amount of heat coming off the engine that they now can shut the rear cyl. down when the heat builds up (on 07 & 08's). Funny thing, the dealer said the first switch over was free but if I didn't like it there was a $150.00 charge to turn the rear cyl back on and visa versa. HD stands for Hundred Dollars, every time you want to do some thing it cost you at least $100.00. I bought a new 07 Venture instead. Have a good time with your new ride it's a nice bike.

Actually, all dealers will turn it back on for free if you do not like the results. It only shuts down when idling. So only really impacts anything if in heavy, stop and go traffic.

Hard to argue that point, but personally, I do not have the fix installed. I have a SERT (Race Tuner) so I can reprogram mine at will. I tried it and really could not tell a difference based on my style of riding.

It is called Idle Temperature Management System and shuts down the fuel to the rear cylinder at idle........quite useful in stop and go traffic. Helps a little bit.....not too much as far as heat goes.......mainly I think a normal rider does not spend that much time at idle, so the motor does not ever cool down....so the effect is not realized. What it was designed for is parades.......motorcycle cops and those who spend lots of time at idle. For the normal rider......it is not any advantage. In south Carolina, when the temperature is 103 to 107 , even sitting on a bag of ice does not help much.:bighug:

Do you hear the tick tick tick from the rear cylinder when it shuts down and the temp. drops; as you do from both at complete shut down?

That is one of the sounds missed from the water cooled bikes; instead you might hear the fan running a few seconds at shut down.

Kinda do miss the old sounds: potato potato, tick tick, etc. Yamaha's air cooled, OHV, V-Twins are looking better every day.

Um........I have only ridden one bike like this......my buddy Cayce is a mechanic at the Harley shop in Summerton........he sometimes rides one of the bikes up and we ride around Lake Murray, or I go down there and we ride down to Beaufort or some place. We will switch bikes at some point.....as we both like all bikes........never saw one we did not like!! That system will only kick in at a dead stop, at idle, seems to have some kind of delay relay or something......do not ask me I do not have a clue about electronic stuff or computers........but will kick in a couple seconds after you are at a stop and just at idle. Yes you do notice the difference in the sound of the motor and exhaust, the rear cylinder is not firing, just following along. Is it any advantage........No!!! not for me.....not for any one who rides normally, you do not sit still long enough to realize the advantage of this.......sit at a stop light for what 10 seconds.....no motor is not going go cool down in ten seconds.......realistically.......no advantage, none that I can see. It was not designed for everyday riders........was designed for those who do sit at idle a lot......like a parade........or maybe a motorcycle cop sitting somewhere .........with the new technology and the ease they now start..........not sure why a cop would even want to sit at idle.........Yes the new Yamaha twins are nice.......but there is not any bike, none......not one.......that can come close to the magic sound and low torque fun of a Big Harley Twin........they have their own sound.......nothing can even come close.

To me this is a sales gimmick........a new design......not sure why it was designed......nothing wrong with it.......just do not see the advantage of it for normal use. That oil does get hot though......even with an front mounted oil cooler.......it can and will run up to 270 degrees.......this is why synthetic is so good for air cooled motors........whoops said the oil word:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::stirthepot: Kit
