ScottW Posted May 3, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2011 My wife and I are headed out to Virginia from the Orlando area in a few weeks. We're hoping to see parts of Virginia, West Virgina, Penn and Kentucky before stopping in Atlanta to see the kids and grandkids. Anyone have any info on things to see along the way? ThomWill Posted May 3, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 3, 2011 Blue Ridge Parkway (just awesome) Biltmore estates (Ashville, NC) Lots of cool touristy stuff around Knoxville / Seveirville / Pigeon forge if you go up that way (also the Dragona and the Cherohala skyway are up that direction) Cherokee casino if that sort of thing interests you. If you go up the coast there are lots of places to see including Kitty Hawk. Lots of stuff here around Atlanta, but you probably knew that one

ScottW Posted May 3, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted May 3, 2011 We've been on the Blue Ridge many times and will probably go back this year. Stayed away from the dragon last year because of the rock slide. May go there this year. We've never toured Virginia, so we're open to anything. We have visited the northern part of West Virginia many years ago. My wife has family in Penn. We're just hoping to see a lot of country and historical areas
aharbi Posted May 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted May 3, 2011 We travel each summer to PA to visit my wifes folks. As you enter PA from WV we notice the speed limit drops from 70mph to 55mph. Didn't take long to realize the drop in speed was due to the condition of the roads. You just can't drive any faster than 55mph without tearing up your vehicle. Got to be the worst roads in the country. They say it's the weather, nope, a lot of northern states has way better roads with a lot worse weather. etcswjoe Posted May 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted May 3, 2011 If you like alot of twisties and great scenery jump on 16 outside of North Wilesboro NC and ride it up through Va and Wv if you jump on 77 at Beclkley its about a 250 mile ride and takes about 6 hours. I grew up riding this route and its one of my favorite routes.
YamaDuck Posted May 3, 2011 Share #7 Posted May 3, 2011 We're leaving on the 15th for 6 days from Atlanta. We are doing the Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and Shenandoah Valley. If we have time hopefully into Pa. to Gettysburg. We have 5 bikes going. If it works out maybe we can hook up.
