jfoster Posted May 1, 2011 #1 Posted May 1, 2011 I've seen on some mc club bikes a braided line off the left or right hand grip that almost touches the ground. Looks like a long leather pony tail....what's the purpose if one?

I have modest ones on my bike that were put on by the previopus owner. I kinda like them.
Black Owl Posted May 1, 2011 #3 Posted May 1, 2011 Aftermarket speed control.. At about 40-45 MPH that braid can get to whipping around like a stinger on a bull whip. Then, if one is a "real" biker and riding in a wife beater "T" a couple a pops on the arm will get you to slow down real quick. (cuz the Queens grounded)
brewser23 Posted May 2, 2011 #4 Posted May 2, 2011 Believe what you are describing is called a "get back " whip. Used primarily for decoration but have also been used to let someone know when they were invading the riders space be it cager or another (rival) biker.
Reddog170 Posted May 2, 2011 #5 Posted May 2, 2011 Sounds like a good way to remove skin without crashing.
muaymendez1 Posted May 2, 2011 #7 Posted May 2, 2011 There is a difference here http://www.jcwhitney.com/maltese-cross-grip-covers/p2012385.jcwx?filterid=j3 this is for dress up. Almost like tassles on a girls bike. And this is a Get back whip http://www.chilhowee.net/whips.html Its called a get back whip because as stated earlier. if someone or something were inavding your space. A flick of this whip is supposed to grab someones attention. I have personally heard this technique applied on the hood of a car that got to close. Its pretty loud and scares the hell out of anyone in a cage without a gun. My 2 cents are. 2 tons win over 800 lbs any day. Metal cruches bones fairly easy and I dont want to piss off the wrong person.

AJSCRAPER Posted May 2, 2011 #9 Posted May 2, 2011 I had some small ones on the brake a clutch levers installed by the previous owner They'd started flapping at speeds above 45 and shook the levers enough to knock-off the Cruse Control, very annoying. Needless to say they were gone shortly after I figured out what was happening. Scraper
