Condor Posted April 29, 2011 #2 Posted April 29, 2011 how do i replace my ignition switch on 1986 yamaha vr ? thanks Al The ignition cluster is held on by two bolts that can be reached using a long...14".. 1/4 drive extension and going up through the steering head area. There's a mass of wires to snake through but it can be done. To reinstall go buy a couple of hex head screws. Makes it easier to get the screw started again.
MiCarl Posted April 29, 2011 #3 Posted April 29, 2011 I think you'll need a 10mm socket on the end of all those extensions.
twigg Posted April 29, 2011 #4 Posted April 29, 2011 Access is horrible. It is, though, quite easy to just swap out the upper section of the ignition switch, if that would help.
