mitch77 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Hello, After four years not running I have scraped together enough time and money to get my 84 Royale running if I buy one set of carb gaskets and cut the rest by hand. (3 kids in college) I am wondering were I might get the best price on a single set of carb gaskets *and* a single vacuum piston (buddy who is helping called it a 'slider'). Thanks very much. MiCarl Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 The carburetor float bowls use o-rings, not gaskets. The starter block and jet block use gaskets, but they're small and complex. There is also another o-ring under the jet block. I do not know of any good source for these besides Yamaha. A new carburetor slide is pricey. I sell an aftermarket slide (which is about half the price from Yamaha) and some other 1st gen Venture parts HERE. If you become a supporting member of VentureRider.org you're eligible for a 15% discount from the listed prices. If you just need new rubber for it there is a company (sirius consolidated) that sells replacement diaphragms.
mitch77 Posted April 26, 2011 Author Posted April 26, 2011 (edited) How much for - one plastic slide (vacuum piston)? - 4 jet block gaskets - and 8 rubber plugs? Can I pay via PayPal? thanks Mitch & Kim Graves 118 S Fillmore St Edwardsville IL 62025 618-656-1844 http://www.gravesjudo.com Edited April 27, 2011 by mitch77
dingy Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Take Carl's word on this. I just completely rebuilt a set of 86 carbs. There is a very remote chance you will be able to get cut gaskets to work for o'rings. There are 5 o'rings in carb and every one is different dia. & thickness. Picture attached of rebuild kit. Gary
MiCarl Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 The slide is here Thunder Valley Powersports:: 1983 - 1985 carburetor slide. Regular price is $93.14. Short of walking in with cash PayPal is the only way you can pay. Become a supporting member here ($12) and I'll send you the 15% off coupon code. You'll end up saving $1.97 more than your membership dues.
mitch77 Posted April 27, 2011 Author Posted April 27, 2011 Turns out I don't need the O rings at all. All I need is - one plastic slide (vacuum piston) - 4 jet block gaskets - and 8 rubber plugs Bike mech says everything else is in great shape So maybe I have to buy one carb kit as pictured unless I can get just a single gasket... mitch
GS51 Posted April 27, 2011 Posted April 27, 2011 Try this Guy I contacted him some time ago and quoted me a good price on a slider way below all the dealers. At that time is was $65 each SMorrisRN@aol.com if you try to clean them do not usethe new soak carb cleaner, use clean gas only the newer carb cleaners react badly with the metals in the older carbs and could give you problems. mitch77 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 Thanks Gary! $72 now but with three kids in college every cent counts: Ok all I need now is a place to buy 1 jet block gasket and the 8 rubber plugs? Anyone point me the right direction? Mitch & Kim Graves 118 S Fillmore St Edwardsville IL 62025

mitch77 Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 My manual says XVZ1200 1984 The sight you sent me to doesn't have that listed as an option. How similar are the Yamaha XVZ12DL 1984 and mine? thnx mitch

How similar are the Yamaha XVZ12DL 1984 and mine? thnx mitch As far as the motor, they are identical. Few more options on the DL like radio, CLASS system. Just be aware that the carbs are different from after 1986 in regards to the slider you had mentioned earlier. Gary
