Aussie Annie Posted April 26, 2011 #1 Posted April 26, 2011 25th April..........yesterday to us! Alan and I proudly wore medals for: My grandfather, father and uncle, and his father--and marched with the diggers at our local Anzac parade. THE ODE: They shall grow not old, As we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, Nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning We will remember them LEST WE FORGET
mini-muffin Posted April 26, 2011 #2 Posted April 26, 2011 I'm sure it was a very proud day for the both of you. Margaret
Aussie Annie Posted April 27, 2011 Author #3 Posted April 27, 2011 It was that Margaret. Alan has just been given his Uncles medals by one of his sisters..so I will get them re-ribboned and mounted on a bar for him.

Gray Ghost Posted April 28, 2011 #5 Posted April 28, 2011 Annie, I am just getting back on the forum, wasn't on for ANZAC day. Wanted to post this link from a blog I follow. I think you will enjoy seeing how some of our military feel about the ANZACs. http://www.blackfive.net/main/2011/04/the-anzac-day-tradition-lest-we-forget.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Blackfive+%28BLACKFIVE%29. So, belatedly, on behalf of my great-uncle who was a veteran of WWI, my father and uncles who were WWII vets, my oldest brother who is a Vietnam vet, and myself and three of my sons who are Iraq/Afghanistan vets, thanks to all of you Aussies for your support in our endeavors. Cliff Fargason
Sailor Posted April 28, 2011 #6 Posted April 28, 2011 The Ode is part of the ritual for every Royal Canadian Legion meeting. You can sometime see how the Vets are affected by it.
Aussie Annie Posted April 29, 2011 Author #7 Posted April 29, 2011 Thanks for that Ciff. And I want to thank all WW2 pacific veterans for their sacrifice. All our boys were fighting in Europe, and the yanks protected our back door! God Bless 'em all.
