hig4s Posted April 16, 2011 #1 Posted April 16, 2011 (edited) I test rode a Victory Vision, and a Victory Cross Country today. The stereo was better on both bikes then on my RSV, seat comfort was good on both, a little better on the Vision but lower on the CC. Handle bar bend seemed funny and bothered my wrists. Vision had turbulence around my helmet even with the screen all the way up. And the Cross Country turbulence was terrible. I never had and turbulence around my helmet on the RSV, even when it had the stock windscreen. Vision seemed very heavy both slow and at speed. Surprisingly the CC was much lighter and more nimble, I thought they had the same frame? FI is nice, engine has lots of torque. But overall, not as good as what I have. Edited April 16, 2011 by hig4s
jfoster Posted April 16, 2011 #2 Posted April 16, 2011 Makes you wonder if mc manufacturer's ever use a wind tunnel to test a design and then try to improve on it.
SilvrT Posted April 16, 2011 #3 Posted April 16, 2011 May 6 is Victory demo days here... Nina & I will definately be testing out the CC ... I think they are a smart looking scoot when all decked out with the travel trunk, etc. Tomorrow is Harley demo days... yes, I'm going if for nothing else but to have a bit of FUN!
Hummingbird Posted April 16, 2011 #4 Posted April 16, 2011 I like the looks of many bikes out there but have no desire to switch from my Venture. XM radio takes care of the music and the bike fits - don't need anything else
22lyons Posted April 16, 2011 #5 Posted April 16, 2011 Also test rode the victory a few years ago. I prefered the hd ultra classic. i like the hd handling more than the venture or the victory; however, too many good points to the venture.
Mikealiasmike Posted April 16, 2011 #6 Posted April 16, 2011 My next steed will be a Cross country. I love that bike and since they came out with a better windshield (something I'll have to order) the buffeting will stop. I rode one last summer and loved it. Wife has already been forewarned. I get some eye rolling but she knows it will happen ... one day

Mikealiasmike Posted April 16, 2011 #8 Posted April 16, 2011 As was said before, the wind really did make a difference but they have several windshields for it now. The power will push you back in your seat if you hop on it. The handling surpasses the RSTD by leaps and bounds. It didn't feel like steering a pile of rocks at slow speed. It had plenty of storage space, cruise, the stereo could easily be heard at higher speeds. When I was looking at them they had a 5 year guarantee on it but I wasn't ready to buy then. They do have a 2 year one but speaking to the mechanic I always go to at VanWall motorsports in Perry, Iowa (shameless plug for them because they deserve it) he informed me he's had so few in for repairs, he couldn't give me an example of something to look for. Guess you'll see for yourself when you go for a test spin. Oh yea, the chroming is above par and looks great. I love the tail light because it reminds me of an old Lincoln emblem

Do you still have the stock size tire on the front of your RSTD, the smaller front tire and/or leveling links make the RS handle much better.

I put the 130 tire on mine ... yes, it improves handling expecially at low speed but the bike is "squirrelly" on the slab. I'm going back to a 150 soon as I have a few extra bucks. I've also installed the levelling links... I like the effect. As for bike comparisons, I did the Harley demo days today and rode a Road Glide Ultra as well as a Electra Glide Ultra. Both had the 103 engine. Didn't care much for the fairing on the Road Glide. Gobs of power in that 103 mill. This will now be the 5th or 6th time I've demo'd an Electra and each time I do, I get closer and closer to wanting to buy one. If only I could afford it *sigh*. I am very impressed with the nibleness and stability of these bikes. They track very true on the slab and I felt way more comfortable in a high-speed S turn than on my RSMV. Creeping around a parking lot is also tons easier IMHO. For some strange reason, the Road Glide had more shake at idle than the Electra. As for the Shake on the Electra, it wasn't bothersome at all, in fact, hardly noticeable and once you got moving, the bike was very smooth. Now what did I do with that Lotto ticket????

I have the smaller Avon and have not experienced any squirmy-ness at all on the freeway.

I am running Bridgestone Spitfire s11 on front and rear. Both installed appx the same time. I am planning to switch to Elite 3 stock size front and rear sometime in July.

If you stick with the 130 when you go to the E3s, I doubt you will have the same issue with them.
Grisolm1 Posted April 18, 2011 #14 Posted April 18, 2011 These bikes were on my short list for a gen1 upgrade. Couldn't get comfortable enough with the styling to pay 8k more than for a good used 2ng gen but it was close. Never rode one but all the tests I read gave them high marks for handling and performance.
