spear Posted November 25, 2007 #1 Posted November 25, 2007 Hey guys. Here is a cut and paste of a posting on another (Australian) motorcycle web site. An ADR is an Australian Design Rule. Yamaha XVZ1300TF Venture Discontinued in Aus For all those Venture owners out there, I have been told, and it has been confirmed by Yamaha that the Venture model will not be coming to Aus after 2007. The reason given - The speedo will no longer comply with the new 2008 ADR's and Yamaha is not willing to spend the money to upgrade it. It will still be sold everywhere else (especially in the US) - just not here. So if any one feels like I do about this, contact Yamaha and complain - like I have. If you want, please contact me to let me know your feelings. How'd you like to live down under and wanna upgrade?
Guest KitCarson Posted November 25, 2007 #2 Posted November 25, 2007 Hi Aussie!! So they are not going to let you have any more Ventures!!! Do not worry yours will last a long time!! Yamaha is not changing anything on any of the new year model bikes......even the 2008 is an exact copy of the 2007 down to the last bolt. I do not think they intend to, they are not gradually each year changing anything, or making modifications, such as ABS brakes and maybe a CD Player? I was in contact with some of the honchos with Yamaha for about a 60 day period when I had dealer problems and got my clutch basket changed finally, I tried my best to get one of them to slip up and give me a hint........nope!! I do think, and it is just my opinion......in the next year or two, a new Venture will be put on the market. If you watch other bikes, they gradually change things, make modifications, keep up with the competition, Yamaha is not doing this. So this put with a little common sense, simply says, they are working on a whole new bike. For what it is worth, and this is just my opinion, I do think very soon we will see the 3rd Gen Bike. I just sincerely hope it is not like the Wing.................Kit
Squidley Posted November 25, 2007 #3 Posted November 25, 2007 I am surprised that they even came out with an '08 model. I have said it here before that the current platform of the G2 is on numbered days

Bummer Posted November 25, 2007 #5 Posted November 25, 2007 Change is not Yamaha's style. At heart they're still a musical instrument company. They make a solid product and then sell it for a fairly long time unchanged beyond bug fixes. This lets them charge less. Meanwhile they're designing the replacement. Which will be a solid machine sold for a fairly long time largely unchanged beyond bug fixes. I'm not mad at 'em. I have a Venture. I love it. I aim to use it up. With any amount of luck that'll take a while. Have faith fellows, they're listening. They just won't change this one. The next one should be a hoot.
spear Posted November 26, 2007 Author #6 Posted November 26, 2007 I tend to agree on the new model front. I reckon I'll give 'em until 2010 and they'll shock us all with a lighter, fuel injected model. Yamahaha I don't think will want to stand still on this one. It's a lucrative sector of the market and it'll wanna be there.
Vance Posted November 26, 2007 #7 Posted November 26, 2007 An ADR is an Australian Design Rule. - The speedo will no longer comply with the new 2008 ADR's Spear, Do you have any info on why the speedo won't comply with the new design rules? Seems like if the speedo tells you how fast you are going, what more do you need?
spear Posted November 27, 2007 Author #8 Posted November 27, 2007 Spear, Do you have any info on why the speedo won't comply with the new design rules? Seems like if the speedo tells you how fast you are going, what more do you need? I'm hearing some bull about the fact that it's 8% out (reading high - hello - how safe does that make you) that it's outside of tolerances. I sent Yamahahahah Australia a query email re the non-supply of the Venture after 2007 and I was told, and I quote: Dear Steve, The XVZ1300TF is no longer available for the Australian market. Regards, Sue Cleary Customer Relations Department Yamaha Motor Australia So I sent another one back asking why. I can keep this up as long as they can.
mini-muffin Posted November 27, 2007 #9 Posted November 27, 2007 Hey if you need any help let us have the email address. I'm sure it wouldn't take long after getting a few of these questions from lots of other folks. Who knows Yamaha might get confused and fix whatever this problem is. Oh what about the speedo healer? Does that help it? Margaret
firewalker Posted November 27, 2007 #10 Posted November 27, 2007 I also talked to a Yamaha Rep for my area while working the Star booth at the International Motorcycle show in Houston and he said that there are things to come...he even said that he does not even get information about the new year models until the week before they are released to the public and that every bike and/or change to the bikes go through at least 36 months of testing before being brought to the public, this is why there is not a V-Max for '08, while testing they found something and instead of putting it out there and then recalling to fix they pushed the release so that when released it will be a great product with limited issues.
whozleft Posted November 27, 2007 #11 Posted November 27, 2007 Yes the Venture could use some tweaking, but we always talk about how Yamaha doesn't change things on these bikes every year or so. Hey...Harley has kept things basically the same for how many years. Just recently have we seen some real turn arounds from the Harley boys.We have a great bike, but no matter what you've got, there is always something else out there that has this or that on it you'd like to have. Get on and ride. If Yamaha comes out with a significantly improved Venture we'll all have our current scoots pretty much paid for by then and we can all go in as a group and trade our current rides for a new one. Just think of how many used Ventures will be for sale then.
spear Posted November 30, 2007 Author #12 Posted November 30, 2007 I found this information on the speedos of bikes and whether or not they conform to the Australian Design Rules. From what I can see an 8% variation is all that is tolerated. Obviously the RSVs tested vary more than that. Boy - the small things that amuse small minds. (Hope it links okay - for those interested.) rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/files/ADR%201803.pdf
