BuddyRich Posted April 14, 2011 #1 Posted April 14, 2011 Says it will take a bike up to 1000lbs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycle-trailer-carrier-tow-dolly-hauler-rack-hitch-/130508779431?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e62edefa7
Red Rider Posted April 14, 2011 #2 Posted April 14, 2011 I don't think you can use that for the ventures. Some thing about the tranny pump and the gears burning out...
Hummingbird Posted April 14, 2011 #3 Posted April 14, 2011 I've never used one of those butt I do have one of these [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOBvasLWmlA]YouTube - Demo of the Rampage Power Lift for Motorcycles[/ame]
Midrsv Posted April 14, 2011 #4 Posted April 14, 2011 I've not seen one before and I don't think I would trust it for a 1000# bike. It seems you would be real limited in tie-down strap attachment points. Dennis
mountainhorsega Posted April 14, 2011 #5 Posted April 14, 2011 Owners manual specifically says not to tow the RSV/TD
bongobobny Posted April 14, 2011 #6 Posted April 14, 2011 A few years ago I looked at those and asked about it. The answer being you do NOT want to tow a shaft drive for any distance at all without risking damage to the drive train. You would need to remove the driveshaft to tow any distance at all...
Condor Posted April 14, 2011 #7 Posted April 14, 2011 With one you'd be turning everything after the clutch... i.e. middle gear... without any oil circulation. Even with the tranny in neutral things are going to moving. Can't be a good thing over a long distance....
OB-1 Posted April 14, 2011 #8 Posted April 14, 2011 Says it will take a bike up to 1000lbs. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motorcycle-trailer-carrier-tow-dolly-hauler-rack-hitch-/130508779431?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item1e62edefa7 I tried a similar device back in 81 with a Harley. It bent my trailer hitch like it was a wet noodle. Ended up renting a trailer. I think something like this would be fine for a small or mid-sized chain drive bike, but I would be reluctant to use one on anything bigger than say a 500cc bike.
lonestarmedic Posted April 14, 2011 #9 Posted April 14, 2011 I saw one running up 181 last month. Unknown what brand but the Harley Road King was bouncing on it like a rubber ball. I would cut the weight limit in half. And I don't think I want to propel a shaft drive backwards through the rear wheel. Methinks the transmission would protest. JB
Flyinfool Posted April 14, 2011 #10 Posted April 14, 2011 That looks like a LONG way back to have that much load hanging. I don't think I would trust it for anything more than very short distance emergency use. Just to many disclaimers in the ad.
Midicat Posted April 14, 2011 #11 Posted April 14, 2011 My first reaction was "I would not trust the safety and stability of my $4000 bike to a $129.00 piece of steel." I did not know that about towing a shaft drive. See?? That's why I'm a member here. The knowledge base is VAST! Thomas
