I had (and still have) these for "weighing things". http://www.scalesnow.com/images/ohaus3.jpg I used them to balance and blueprint a ceiling fan. Weighed each blade, each bracket, and each set of screws and made up PERFECTLY balanced blade assemblies. My friends would just sit and stare up at my ceiling fan and be amazed over how smoooooth it was while we were weighing out things and doing things. I don't stare at the ceiling fan any more.
