I have a 1998 Royal Star Tour Classic that i would like to mount hard saddle bags on. I am wondering if my current mounts and supports will be fine to mount say tour deluxe or venture bags on. I currently have soft leather bags but like i said would like to go to hard bags and possibly a trunk, again maybe a venture trunk. Just curious if anyone has attempted this and what modifications if any were required. any info would be great!

you would need the hard bag mounts also, there is a big diff. from the soft bag mounts and the hard bag mounts will mount to your bike with small modifications.

do you have the 4x4 exhaust or 2x4 exhaust? if you have the large slant bags on the 2x4 ehaust the venture hardbags will fit right on them. if you have the 4x4 you'll have to get the mounting hardware off a 99-present or 05-present td to be able to put the hardbags on it.you can find some on e-bay stote of pinwall salvage and a couple others.

the venture hard bag mounts will also give you the mounts for the required 4 into 2 mufflers.

so your gunna need mounts and complete exhaust system from a 99 to 2011 venture, as they are all the same.

Hi Donald.

Walter (wes0778) is right. We both have the hard bags from the Venture and they are simply a bolt on for the Tour Classic II 1998. The saddlebag crash bars are the only thing that are in the way but they can either be bent forward a little or you can make some adapter plates for the frame that will move the bars a little forward.

Regarding the Venture trunk then you will need very modest modifications. The only thing I have been able to figure out that needs to be done is to drill holes in the crome fender rail for the bolt that will fasten the bracket the trunk sits on. If you do not fancy drilling a hole, you could just buy used fender rails from a Venture and replace them with the original ones on your bike. I am not sure but I think all the bolt holes will fit.

The trunk is a little hard to get unless you have around 3.000 US$ to buy a new one and get it painted. Used ones can be found at Pinwall Cycles and some other salvage motorcycle dealers but the bad thing is that they are usually badly damaged with cracks and broken pieces. Once in a while one that is only scuffed and scratched shows up but these guys tear the trunks apart and sell them piece by piece most of the time to get the most money out of them.

Wish you well with your project - I am sure your bike will look great when finished.

Last but not least - You have to post pictures of your bike on your profile - thats the law :)

Friendly regards from Iceland,

Jonas

Hey starfan thanks for the info. I am starting to find that out(Money for the trunk), definitely will have to loook hard i guess. Did you have any problems mounting your hard bags? Sorry for no pics yet, I am kinda computer illiterate, I will try and get some pics up as soon as I can. I would definitely like to do that and progress the pics as i mod my bike for everyone to see, who knows maybe it will help someone like me in the future, lol. Anyway i appreciate all of the replies from everyone and everyone ride safe!:322:
