Freebird Posted February 12, 2008 Author #26 Posted February 12, 2008 They actually may have that problem resolved. I got a call from my contact at Verizon Corporate yesterday. They are supposed to be overnighting me a new Venus with an 8 GIG chip to test for them. I haven't seen it yet today and due to the weather, it may not get here today as it was supposed to.
Guest cajunrsver Posted February 13, 2008 #27 Posted February 13, 2008 Got Judy an iPhone for Christmas. Made me want one, but am limited to Blackberry devices because of work. The iPhone is overpriced, but decent phone and great music player. The interface is extremely well done. All that said, the battery on the first one lasted about 45 minutes - when not being used. Took it back and was told it is a fairly common problem. AT&T will not service the iphone. Their agreement with Apple is they all have to be sent to Apple. Apple did supply a loaner and ended up replacing the phone. Don't feel bad I'm on my third iPhone since October. My kids gave me one for my birthday and Apple finally replaced the original phone on the third repair. This one appears to be working fine. The original phone would lock up and finally it would give you a message that the phone needed repair to contact apple. When I sent it in for repair the last time I told them I wanted a new phone or I would be eating this one and changing to a different type phone. It's a real neat phone with lots of features but the big drawback is having to send it in to Apple for repair or battery replacement and the bad thing is you can not pull the sim card and put it into a replacement phone because that will not work. Also hidden in the repair/loaner policy is they can charge you $36 for a loaner phone. They always waived the fee but I got a feeling that they will not do that forever. Another bad thing about this phone is you have to have a computer to active the replacement phone or to restore from backup files, so don't go too far away from your desktop or laptop. So in closing buyer beware on the hidden quirks of owning an iphone.
V7Goose Posted February 13, 2008 #28 Posted February 13, 2008 I'm working on doing the same thing with my W580i Walkman phone (ATT). I've had the phone for just over a month and am very happy with it, but I haven't fully set up all the music and connections to the bike yet. I'll report more when I have it done. Goose
Moose Posted February 14, 2008 #29 Posted February 14, 2008 800 songs won't do it for me Freebird. I've got well over 5000 on my iPod with another 5000 or so waiting to be uploaded from library. At the same time I am still purchasing CDs and vinyl! Nope, 800 - 1600 songs just won't suffice. What your phone/mp3/camera needs is a good overhaul by Tim (the Tool Man) Taylor. Maybe a good Binford 360 upgrade...Ooo, ooo, ooo... ooo!:rotf::rotf:
Freebird Posted February 22, 2008 Author #30 Posted February 22, 2008 Well....it appears that Verizon has FINALLY got this issue figured out. I received the new phone last week and it had the same issue, only utilized 4 GB of the 8 GB card. After working with them on the issue they then sent me yet another Venus and this one does work correctly. It has the 8 GB card in it and I have about 7 GB of music uploaded to it now. That's somewhere around 2,000 songs. Plenty for a short ride or two. They haven't told me officially what the problem was and I really don't think they will because I believe it is a big problem for them. These last two have the same firmware. I heard from another source that all the original Venus phones had a faulty chip that was causing the problem. I think what will happen is that they will deal with only the people who scream the loudest. Many will use memory cards 4 GB or less so will never know that they have a problem. Anyway, I'm happy with it for now. I'll use it for a few weeks and see how it does. I will say that the sound through a decent set of earbuds is great. I've also used a patch cord and hooked it into my cars stereo system and it sounds great there also.
