royalstar09 Posted April 5, 2011 #2 Posted April 5, 2011 http://bgky.craigslist.org/tid/2307256783.html RandyA Looks like the average craigslist scam to me. I dont use craigslist for these reasons. You reply to that email and the spam flys.
Reddog170 Posted April 5, 2011 #5 Posted April 5, 2011 OK this is a pretty dumb question. But here I go: How do you scam on craigslist? You have an item, you post it for sale, then take down the add once it is sold. Where is the problem? I have not used craigslist for anything yet. Just curious. Shaun
Guest scarylarry Posted April 5, 2011 #6 Posted April 5, 2011 http://bgky.craigslist.org/tid/2307256783.html RandyA One way to find out is use a 2nd e-mail address, I have one for craiglist and e-bay that way my regular e mail is not jammed up with junk..

Shaun It's easy...you do exactly what you just said but you don't actually own the product that you are trying to sell. If you respond to the ad in question, you will get a response that "YES...I still have the bike. I am serving in the Army and am presently stationed in Germany. The bike is stored and if you want it, we can use an escrow service. You send the money and blah blah blah." The escrow service is ALWAYS bogus. They get your money, you get nothing. It's amazing that people still fall for these scams but the fact that there are so many of them out there tells me that some people still do.
bryan52577 Posted April 5, 2011 #8 Posted April 5, 2011 If you Google the e-mail address, it has been flagged and / or removed in New York and LA Craigs list selling the same item. Bryan

bkuhr Posted April 5, 2011 #10 Posted April 5, 2011 As I live in Bowling Green KY, I would be willing to go look if you can get a real address, but FWIW, the soil in both the city and county is red clay, and in the pictures it looks like white sand.
RSTDdog Posted April 6, 2011 #11 Posted April 6, 2011 Undervalued and no phone number = scam. I usually don't bother with craigslist items that don't have a phone number. It always kills me, even on seemingly legit ads- Must sell! but no phone number?? If your serious, put a phone number IMO. I never use the email link when I am selling something on Craigslist and Hide it. Just a phone number. Never had an issue. Serious buyers will also call.
Guest scarylarry Posted April 6, 2011 #12 Posted April 6, 2011 I used my 2nd e mail address, so let's see what they say.. I will post the reply
ragtop69gs Posted April 6, 2011 #13 Posted April 6, 2011 It's not a scam.... I bought 3 of them from the same guy last summer
Globewalker Posted April 6, 2011 #14 Posted April 6, 2011 It's not a scam.... I bought 3 of them from the same guy last summer And still waiting on delivery right?
Freebird Posted April 6, 2011 #16 Posted April 6, 2011 They were too late. I bought it a few minutes ago. I sent a money order to an escrow company somewhere in Zimbabwe. The bike is being shipped to me from where it was stored in a top secret warehouse at Area 52. If I don't like it, he is going to pay for return shipping also and refund all my money plus $500.00 for my trouble.

Prairiehammer Posted April 7, 2011 #19 Posted April 7, 2011 The same guy Mark John Dugann had posted a listing for a pickup on Craigslist in Nebraska. It was obvious it was a scam, the price was way to low, and after contacting this person, he wrote back, and his last name didnt match his email addy, and his spelling was terrible. He couldnt even spell Army correctly. Went something like this... Thank you for your interest in my 2004 FORD F150 LARIAT 4X4 TRUCK FULLY LOADED! Guest scarylarry Posted April 7, 2011 #20 Posted April 7, 2011 I told him I wanted the bike but I had to see it first before I pay on it... Let's see what his response his to that..
SilvrT Posted April 7, 2011 #21 Posted April 7, 2011 I told him I wanted the bike but I had to see it first before I pay on it... Let's see what his response his to that.. I've played with these scammers a few times just to get a chuckle out of the b/s they respond with. They don't usually keep responding unless they get a "serious bite". It's not just scoots they're running scams on, dogs, cats, puppies, lizards, you name it.... they play the odds game and every so often get lucky. There's a lot of ways to scam people out of their money on the internet and yes, there's a lot of naieve people out there who fall for a scam .... sometimes more than once!
Flyinfool Posted April 7, 2011 #22 Posted April 7, 2011 I once went to sit in bankruptcy court with someone and most of the people going thru bankruptcy were there because the gave many 10$ of thou$and$ to scammers, many from Nigeria. They took out title loans on their cars and mortgages on their houses to give their net worth to the scammers. I sat there in awe that some of these otherwise seemingly intelligent people fell for that stuff, and to that level. One was just under $250K. So I guess they do find a lot of suckers.
