My husband was installing a replacement 'shock linkage"? (to raise the rear a little) today. When he removed the bottom bolt and the back tire was lowered (its on a stand), some fluid drained out of the shock absorber. He said it was half a shot glass full. Does that mean we have to replace this $ 400 shock??..RSV 02 midnight - than:shock3:x...JanJan

Well unfortunately, I'm afraid so. There should never be any oil coming out of the shock. Now I don't know of any way he could have caused it by swapping the links. Just an unfortunate coincidence I think.

Over extension of the shock, just by simply doing a normal maintenance on the bike could have been enough to pooch the shock.. go figure eh? I put a new one the bike and within a couple of month it lost it's oil also.. what a waste.. So I installed a Works! shock and wow, what a huge difference.. Costs a little more, but it's the LAST shock I'll have to buy as this one CAN be serviced.. ;)
