janjan22 Posted April 3, 2011 #1 Posted April 3, 2011 My husband was installing a replacement 'shock linkage"? (to raise the rear a little) today. When he removed the bottom bolt and the back tire was lowered (its on a stand), some fluid drained out of the shock absorber. He said it was half a shot glass full. Does that mean we have to replace this $ 400 shock??..RSV 02 midnight - than:shock3:x...JanJan
Freebird Posted April 3, 2011 #2 Posted April 3, 2011 Well unfortunately, I'm afraid so. There should never be any oil coming out of the shock. Now I don't know of any way he could have caused it by swapping the links. Just an unfortunate coincidence I think.
Seaking Posted April 4, 2011 #3 Posted April 4, 2011 Over extension of the shock, just by simply doing a normal maintenance on the bike could have been enough to pooch the shock.. go figure eh? I put a new one the bike and within a couple of month it lost it's oil also.. what a waste.. So I installed a Works! shock and wow, what a huge difference.. Costs a little more, but it's the LAST shock I'll have to buy as this one CAN be serviced..
janjan22 Posted April 15, 2011 Author #4 Posted April 15, 2011 OK, Got the new shock in hand, but there is an extra hose coming off the middle of the shock that was not on the original.....anyone help? should He just hand it off something? Jan
