I had the bike up on the center stand while working on installing the trailer hitch.

The bike is in a little 8x10 storage shed. It has to stay on the side stand in order to fit in the shed.

I just backed it up a foot or so an put it on the center stand to work on it.

At this point the back end of the bike is sticking out the door.

So when I was done working for the night and went to put it back in the shed, I rocked it forward to drop off the center stand, ready to grab the front brake to not continue forward thru the wall, it cam down off of the center stand hard like it always does but this time I had not raised the side stand first.....

I bet you see where this is going......

Yup as it plopped down the anti dive did not work cuz the ignition was off, there was still no air in either the front or rear suspension from winter storrage, and it tried to drop really low, but instead it landed on the side stand and caused the bike to lean hard and fast to the right. Did I mention that the right side of the bike is the side up against the wall????? Well it is.

It took everything that I had to hold the bike up and not let it tip over and land against the wall, if it had leaned another millimeter, I don't think I could have stopped it.

So the moral is, from now on make sure the side stand is up when dropping off the center stand.

Just the opposite for me with a second gen. I make sure the side stand is down before I push it off the center stand. Glad everything came out ok for you though. These things can be a hand full.

HUH????:whistling:

Did you add a center stand to your 2nd gen?

I have also noticed that even when on the side stand my bike stands much more upright than any other bikes around. I still think that I need to shorten the side stand.

Sometimes I am sure I am going deaf from "that" voice.

One of my riding buddies had called me over to see the new bike lift he had bought. I rode over and just as I pulled into his driveway I saw the bike up on the lift and he waved at me and started to let the bike down. It was weird watching the bike come down and slowly lean to the left and then go completely over against the wall. At least there was a wall to stop it.

He just stood there with that old slack jaw expression while I got off my bike and looked over his bike for damage before trying to pick it back up.

He just looked at me and asked, "What the H~~L you grinning about?"

All I could say was, "Next time you might want to put the side stand down before you lower the lift."

Looking at him all I could think of was an old cartoon owl looking at me and blinking. First time in a long time I've seen him speechless.

We rode over to Wally World and got him some straps and showed him how to tie the bike down on the lift. Just in case he forgets again.

But no damage done except his pride.

No, the moral is: "Eat more ice cream so you weigh enough to counterbalance it.":backinmyday:

Hmmm. I better edit that. Yes I put a center stand on my second gen. It really makes maintenance much easier.
