hey guys 1st question,whats the correct idle rpm for an 84 xvz1200 ? and then where do u adjust the idle? i couldnt find ethier in that online manual,any help is appreciated thnx troy

Idle should be 950-1000 The adjuster screw is star shaped, left side of carb bank, between #1&2carbs :canada::canada::canada:

I usually keep my idle around 700 rpm's even though everyone says that is too low. You will probably need a carb sync also.

You just like the way it sounds at that speed don't you....:stickpoke:

 

I like the idle sound a bit lower too, it has a nicer rumble

The idle adjuster is hard to see and reach. It is located between the #1 and #2 carbs. It is horizontally oriented. It is about the size of a dime with raised bumps around the edge. Turning it clockwise increases idle speed (looking at it from underneath).

 

The adjuster gets hot when the engine is at operating temperature. I use a flat-bladed screw driver to make changes when on the road.

Like some of the others I keep mine a little lower than called for. I think the book says 900. When syncing the carbs I turn it up to about 900 seems to be easier to get them balanced then drop it down a little after I'm done with that.
