DanOh Posted March 20, 2011 #1 Posted March 20, 2011 Hey all, Love the site, except that it steals hours away from me as I spend too much time reading through years worth of very helpful threads. I picked up my 02 RSV about three weeks ago. After 1,500 miles I'm loving it more every day. My wife loves it at least as much as I. There is just one issue I'm hoping you folks can help with. The wife isn't enjoying the wind at highway speeds. According to her, she is getting knocked around a lot worse than she does on the back of my Volusia which only has a small shield to keep the wind off my chest. So here are the details. The shield on my RSV is 17inches tall and 23 wide. She is 5'8 and weighs about 105. I'm 5'7 and weigh a bit more than I should. She enjoys the very little wind on her legs (especially in the cold weather), but gets pounded on the upper body and head. I'm thinking that the wind is being deflected over\around me and directly into her. I ride as long as it is above 20 degrees. At that temp I find my lower back getting cold which further makes me think the wind is wrapping around me. The front of my body stays comfortable. Do other folks passengers experience such a rough time with the wind? Any suggestions on how to make the spouse's ride more comfortable? Thanks Muchly, Dan.
Sylvester Posted March 20, 2011 #2 Posted March 20, 2011 I love the low windshield for solo riding, but my wife complains about the wind buffeting her. I bought the Clearview XL windshield to use on dual ride trips. My wife loves it. No more getting beat around since she sits higher up. They have a recurve shield that really kicks the wind up and above the passenger. Best money spent by me, ever.

Getting her a comfy throne to make her butt happy is one of the major reasons I was able to convince her I needed a second motorcycle.

Freebird Posted March 21, 2011 #8 Posted March 21, 2011 I honestly think that the wider shield makes more difference that the higher one. I can't confirm that though because I went taller and wider long ago.

The bigger Clearview (and I would have the Honda vent put in) is definitely better but your wife has a cheaper option. Trade you in for another driver about 6'4" 250 lbs. He would block all the wind off her.

My wife also says she has much less wind buffeting. The only downside is that I can't see over the windshield. I use "Pledge" to help the rain bead and slide off the windshield.
Bobby G Posted March 21, 2011 #14 Posted March 21, 2011 My wife prefers the ride we get with the Showchrome 13" extra-wide shield to the stock shield. Much less buffeting. My girlfriend, who is a little shorter, doesn't care. (Did I just say that? )

Guess my wife is short enough or I'm tall enough, plus I've got the tall stock windshield, so she's happy back there! Happy wife, happy life!! Brian

Yeah, I do the Pledge thing too, but at least the Clearview has a better sweep back and sheds water much better than the stock, it was bad even with Pledge. And I couldn't see of the stock one either.

We kind of like some wind, as that's part of the freedom of riding a motorcycle, is getting some wind in your face. I get a chuckle out of some on here who have to have a deflector for this, or a visor for that, because they don't like the wind touching them. You're on a bike, for cripes sake!

Their own of course and they really prefer to profile without you in the front seat. Monty Posted March 23, 2011 #24 Posted March 23, 2011 Since you change out the windshield how about letting me buy my once clearview back? Buddy After I changed them out, the Clearview fell a whopping 3 feet, and shattered. Glad I took it off. The F4 won't shatter.
