StarFan Posted March 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2011 Greetings fellow Venturers ! I am sorry to say but I will not be able to attend „Freebirds Maintenance Day“ this year like I planned but the „Icelandic Black Death“ will be served like last two years. Made that promise in 2009 and plan to keep it for as long as I am standing tall. The reason we will not attend is that my wife is not off work untill the 6th. of June and she planned to attend with me. However we have booked tickets for USA and are arriving the 11th. of June in Newark Airport and we are going to spend around 19 days riding and visiting friends. We could say it is kind of a late honeymoon so to speak. We really look forward to this and we have decided not to plan the trip day by day but take it as it comes. The plan is to ride across New York state, Ohio and Pennsylvania and maybe dropping by in Indiana if the time allows. Now what I am going to ask is kind of hard for me but here we go: Is there anybody in the States above that could let us overnight if we are riding through ? We do not need any kind of luxury and we will be bringing our sleeping bags. This would make the trip a little easier on us money vice.We can not plan this by dates since we do not want to put ourselves to the pressure of going point to point on a strict timeplan. Means that we would call ahead (most likely the same day or the day before) and see if anybody is home. If nobody is home or we call at a inconvenient time then we just go to a motell with no problem. Sincerely hope that I am not being to frank or rude asking this, but we are sometimes a little bit to much forward we Icelandairs. Most likely caused by the thin air we breath as well as living on an Island and being able to look up the prime minister in the phonebook and give him a call. :>) There is another request for East New York and East Pennsylvania members in another thread I will write after posting this. I am looking for a very nice couple I met at „Freebirds Maintenance Day“ in 2009 that live in East Pennsylvania. Wrote down their name but lost the note. They offered me to store my bike if needed and I would very much like to get in touch with them. Had planned to take the bike home to Iceland but not having a bike in the States is not an option so I need to get it stored somewhere not to far away from JFK or Newark Airport. Anywhere within about 125 miles would work - but the closer the better. Thanks for reading this and we are looking so much forward to meet as many of you as we can this June. Please feel free to contact us through PM messages in this forum or by email: jonaslill@istak.is Friendly regards from Iceland, Username: StarFan Jonas Th. Lilliendahl and Margret S. Bjornsdottir. Freebird Posted March 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 20, 2011 Jonas, I am sorry that you will not be here for Maintenance Day but of course, I already knew that. It goes without saying though that there is a room waiting at our home for you whenever you get through here. We look forward to seeing you again and meeting your wife. For any of you that may be on their route, you will find Jonas to be a very good house guest. He is pretty much potty trained and everything. gunkylump Posted March 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 20, 2011 Hey Jonas: Sorry to hear that you can't make to MD, but fully understand. Work can be such a rotten four letter word....sometimes. Beth and I live about 30 minutes from Detroit, Michigan, on the Canadian side here in Amherstburg, Ontario. If you need a place, you and yours are more than welcome anytime. We have two spare bedrooms, and yup, they have beds, two spare couches if you'd like as well........, but seeing as you're honeymoooooooooooooning, I doubt the couches would be an option. Anyway, there's room here anytime! gunk:)

Although, I'm thinking that Greta will be keeping her eyes on you too. By the way, you know that I would be happy to store the bike for you if you need me to. Heck...I could just sell mine since I would have yours here to ride.

Dano Posted March 20, 2011 Share #11 Posted March 20, 2011 If you make it on over to Indianapolis, we would be glad to put up with you (not TOO sure about the Black Death tho, might have to let the wife try some....), some interesting sites to visit around here if you are interested in Motor Sports at all and I'm sure we could arrange a little M&E along the way....... skydoc_17 Posted March 20, 2011 Share #12 Posted March 20, 2011 Like Don, I had the pleasure of sharing my home, my tools, and my BBQ grill with Jonas the last time he was stateside! A better house guest you will not find. I will say that because of his rustic charm, and his accent, the woman folk find him VERY appealing, so if you have impressionable daughters, or girlfriends, or WIVES, you may want to keep them on a short leash, while Jonas is around! He is "cute as a button", and so polite, that my wife was speaking "Icelandic" for two weeks after he left. This was a minor distraction, and a small price to pay to have such a wonderful visitor from a far away land grace our home. If there is anyone in the eastern NY, eastern PA area that could store Jonas' motorcycle while he and his wife are visiting, to make it easier for him to pick up his bike upon arrival, I would be personally very grateful, and would be willing to discount any parts or services I could offer this person for their trouble. Other than the "Brad Pitt/James Dean thing" Jonas has going on, there is no "down side" to a visit from Jonas! Earl and Jean
BIG TOM Posted March 20, 2011 Share #13 Posted March 20, 2011 (edited) Jonas is a great house guest. I will plan a m&e to Spragues so that everyone can spend some time with Jonas and Greta ..I know he will be flooded with invatations and this way we can all get together for the day..... Used to have one in my youth and it was a multi purpose vehicle so to speak Hey Jonas! I watched a documentary on Iceland a couple of weeks ago...and it is on my "list" of places to go! Amazing country, what with all the geothermal geographics, and some of the most beautiful country to see! And of course, BLACK DEATH! Seriously, all I have to do is convince Beth. I was really intrigued by the documentary, bathing in that huge steam heated pond/pool, and your summer weather is very attractive as well.
