I have a 2006 and take great care if this bike. I have always has scheduled mait done and with every trip I have always asked about the front end wobble. I have always been told this is just part of the bike, weight transfer, etc....I have had the steering head tightened, air in the front forks, new tires, et all. I have never had a bike do this and just about at my wits end. I talked to a Yamaha customer support rep and they agreed with me this is not normal. Going to take it to a new dealer to have this looked at. Anyone else had this problem and if so what are some things I might be missing??

I had it on my 09, stopped when I change the OEM bridgestones.

When I first read it thought that might be the problem but if you have new tires and if they aren't bridgestones I dunno....

Tell us more about the 'wobble'.

  • Do the handle bars wiggle back and forth,
  • does the whole bike seem to squiggle down the road,
  • at what speeds do you notice it,
  • does it do it under acceleration,
  • does it do it under deceleration,
  • how is it in the corners and at what speeds and does it do it either right or left,
  • is it different if there are 1 or 2 on the scoot,
  • when's the last time you checked the fork oil.
  • just a couple of questions1

I had that with my 2006 as well... I ended up servicing the forks and installed Progressive SPrings, changing a dead rear shock with a Werks shock and redoing the swing arm..

The bike now cuts a mean line through turns and curves without any wobbly wobbles..

I agree that it is NOT normal. The RSV is rock solid and I've NEVER had any wobble. I do agree about the Bridgestone tires. They are terrible but if you've changed the tires, hopefully you didn't go back with a Bridgestone.

i've had the wobble but never had the bike do it on it's own......i had to induce it by actually hitting one end of the handlebar.....and at slower speed....never at highway speed......and the new E3 on the front seems to help......

I had the issue in the fall when I took my hands off the grips and as the bike decelerated it started to wobble. No pulling when I'm holding the grips.

Are you experiencing the issue when accellerating? Decelerating? Cornering?

My 06 does it as well (with Avon tyres) but only at low speed if you take the hands off the bars when decellerating. Seems to be mostly as the tyres near the end of their life. I don't believe it dangerous as it is not excessive and quickly snaps back into line as soon as you touch the bars. Other than this the bike is amazingly rock solid at all speeds including bumpy corners and is a pleasure to ride compared to other bikes I have owned.
