1BigDog Posted March 10, 2011 #1 Posted March 10, 2011 Usually after a ride of more than 100 miles my lower legs tend to swell and have internal throbbing pain. Anyone else experience this after a ride?
MikeWa Posted March 10, 2011 #2 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Jeff you need to talk to your doctor about this. Mike see. http://www.pdrhealth.com/disease/disease-mono.aspx?contentFileName=BHG01NP03.xml&contentName=Swelling&contentId=148 Edited March 10, 2011 by MikeWa add link
BIG TOM Posted March 11, 2011 #4 Posted March 11, 2011 I agree with everyone else...sounds like bad circulation or maybe a pinched nerve...I'm no doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.....have it checked out.......
Reddog170 Posted March 11, 2011 #5 Posted March 11, 2011 You are pinching a nerve in you lumbar region. You may have a disk problem. This will only get worse. GO SEE A DOCTOR ASAP!!!! The longer you wait the worse it will get. It could even effect you ability to stand or walk. Shaun

ZoomZoom Posted March 11, 2011 #7 Posted March 11, 2011 Ruffy: I happen to be a MD. The swelling and throbbing pain points to a circulation issue concerning the venous side ( return circulation). Have it checked. I am not an expert on circulation. Al the best to you. Zoom Zoom
MidlifeVenture Posted March 11, 2011 #8 Posted March 11, 2011 I went to the emergency room because I was dizzy and just not feeling well they slapped an EKG on me and all was normal but they kept squeezing my legs looking for swelling they said it was #1 sign of a coronary problem my blood work was normal and they said they still wanted me to spend the night in the coronary ward. So I would get this checked. Me after getting released from the hospital I went to our family physician and found out I had a sinus infection but once they got heart on there mind they had a one track mind. Get checked out and good luck
Guest Posted March 11, 2011 #9 Posted March 11, 2011 Im going to go for a blood work up first then ill get a head to toe check-up including an artery scan, or whatever they do. MidlifeVenture Posted March 11, 2011 #11 Posted March 11, 2011 I hate doctors when I go my blood pressure is always high so she gave me medication and almost passed out after 1 day of taking it. Went out and bought a cuff and my pressure is normal all the time at home. But I still take the prescription of a glass of red wine a day to keep the good cholesterol more gooder:big-grin-emoticon: Doctors are like any business man they are out to make money... IMHO
Yammer Dan Posted March 11, 2011 #12 Posted March 11, 2011 Mine is caused by all the Injuries Ruffy. And Blood clots. GET IT CHECKED!!

Guest Posted September 1, 2011 #14 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) Legs swelled up real bad a few weeks ago. I didnt even have any ankles and the tops of my feet were more plush then a set of pillow top seats. Also have been feeling real run down and lethargic. Takes all I have to make it through a full day at work. So I finally went and had the blood work done and a full physical. Results were in today and all of my blood work came back fine except one area. Something to do with my DNA Autoantibodies system, or something like that. Readings should be 5.0 or lower. Mine were 24.8 which is extremely high. Doc said it could be the reason for any number of things I have dealt with in the past few months. Got an appt with a Rheumatoligist in a few weeks. Hopefully he can clear this up. Edited September 3, 2011 by Ruffy
etcswjoe Posted September 1, 2011 #15 Posted September 1, 2011 I agree with everyone else don't mess around with it and get it taken care of. Being diabetic I have the same issue if my sugar is out of whack so I really have to watch it.
AKRefugee Posted September 1, 2011 #16 Posted September 1, 2011 (edited) This has the warning signs of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DTV) also know as coach flyer leg etc. This can become a serious condition if you don't handle it properly. One of the things you can do is to often move your legs and often (every hour) get off your bike, take a break and do some quick and easy exercises. I have a tendency for DVT and I have learned how to manage it so it does not become a problem. The most important thing you can do is . . . 1 - GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR NOW!!!!! 2 - TELL HIM/HER EVERYTHING!!! 3 - DO EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU TO DO!!! Edited September 1, 2011 by AKRefugee

Guest Posted September 29, 2011 #19 Posted September 29, 2011 Met with the specialist today. SHE is really cute too. Found out that my swelling may have been caused by way too many pain pills taken too soon. I have since thinned out the "herd" and im down to one pill a day. She ordered another 8 vials of blood, which was then packed in ice and sent to the lab immediately. Should have an answer within 3 weeks. Her initial diagnosis, to be confirmed or eliminated with the new blood work is possibly Lupus. I need some kind of answer to explain the bad days vs the good days. Bad days being the dominant trend here. Oh well, life goes on......

Pam Posted September 29, 2011 #21 Posted September 29, 2011 Had a brother in law who was just about how you are describing things. They treated him for high blood preasure for years until he went to a new Dr. Turns out he had a condition where his body would make to much blood. when he was getting full he was very slow and sleepy, and puffy. He could fall asleep in mid sentence. When he got feeling bad he would go in and they would draw off a couple of pints and he was good for a while. They treated him for the blood preasure to long and ruined his liver, and he passed away. Glad your are getting it looked after cause it doesn't sound like it will get better on its own.
Yammer Dan Posted September 29, 2011 #22 Posted September 29, 2011 Good luck with it Ruffy. Keep us posted. After moving all those cinderblocks my shoulders and arms feel like they are swelling??? Leg handled this better than I expected but I kept the compression hose on while working. Temps warmed up and I wanted to shed everything else. Fat old man with nothing but a compression hose on one leg hopping around the yard with a cinderrblock in each hand??
