Just thought I would share. Shaun
dingy Posted March 9, 2011 #2 Posted March 9, 2011 Looks to be in nice shape. Low mileage, if it has 47K Gary
yamadawg Posted March 9, 2011 #3 Posted March 9, 2011 It looks like she'll clean up nicely and make you proud! I have a soft place in my heart for the '83's. I always thought those models were the best looking 1st Gens. They were sportier... more like a sport-tourer instead of a touring bike. I liked the sweep and size of the bags and the way the pipes looked.
SC89Venture Posted March 9, 2011 #4 Posted March 9, 2011 Very nice, the more you become involved with these bikes the more you like them.
Reddog170 Posted March 9, 2011 Author #5 Posted March 9, 2011 Well the reason I went for this one is that a couple years ago when working some long shifts my car quit at work and a friend of mine loaned me his 89 Venture for the weekend. Ever sense then I have wanted one. Now that I have one my mind is racing with the possibilities, longer rides, more power to allow me to pull a trailer, more comfortable seat, ect... Yep is does only have 47k miles. Has been sitting for a couple years, the chicken poop stinks to remove, it turns into this white goo when washing it off. My nephew did a GREAT job cleaning the windshield for me, still has a few minor scratches but is nice and clear again. Shaun
paysaw Posted March 9, 2011 #6 Posted March 9, 2011 H I Reddog Nice bike.I have a low milage 83 too.Same colour.I hope you enjoy your new ride!!
Pam Posted March 9, 2011 #7 Posted March 9, 2011 Its a blond just like mine. I love it, it is quick, sporty the cross winds don't bother it, and when some four wheeler starts to crowd you.....you just leave. I really like it for solo riding. Once you get the bugs cleaned out she will do you proud frank
mini-muffin Posted March 9, 2011 #8 Posted March 9, 2011 Nice looking blond we have one as well. It's the hubby's favorite bike. Margaret
Reddog170 Posted March 11, 2011 Author #9 Posted March 11, 2011 Got my new (used) seat today. Had to share. http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/reddog170/DSCF6448.jpg And a pic of me. Still in my winter fuzz, as my wife puts it. Shaun http://i654.photobucket.com/albums/uu264/reddog170/DSCF6450.jpg
Snaggletooth Posted March 11, 2011 #10 Posted March 11, 2011 Errr..........I got to ask.........Has your "other" seen you in the garage hugging the Blonde yet?
Reddog170 Posted March 11, 2011 Author #11 Posted March 11, 2011 Yep she has.. Course she also threatened to make me sleep in the garage.
Snaggletooth Posted March 11, 2011 #12 Posted March 11, 2011 Not all bad then. And summer is right around the corner. You've seen "Fastest Indian" right. Now he had it made.
Yammer Dan Posted March 11, 2011 #13 Posted March 11, 2011 Sleeping in the Garage ain't bad. I got to sleep on the ground and hope it don't rain!! MORE POWER??? You ain't got that thing right yet.
Monty Posted March 11, 2011 #14 Posted March 11, 2011 What do you mean "more power"? That thing will pull a trailer with ease, just like it is.
Snaggletooth Posted March 11, 2011 #15 Posted March 11, 2011 Come on now........he's still working on it. When he gets it right and comes back from that first 100 mph blast in 3rd gear with his eyebrows on the back of his head...well...he'll know. Did anybody warn him about the velcro gloves you need for these things? More power......cracked me up.
dingy Posted March 11, 2011 #16 Posted March 11, 2011 Mo' Money, Mo' Power Unless you have some very high end HD's you want to whip, its got enough. They are never gonna whip an FJR or Hyubusi, but I think a VRod is within reach, with a few tweaks. Myself, I wanted just a tad bit more. But, then I been doing this for a while, been on wheels with a motor hooked to them for 5 decades, since I was 5 years old. Not really after the top end anymore, 130 ain't as fun as it used to be. But 0-100 is fun, and puts a **** eatin' grin on your face, as they pull up along side and go "What you got in that old thing ?" Gary
Reddog170 Posted March 12, 2011 Author #17 Posted March 12, 2011 Not looking for an ultimate powerhouse. Just looking forward to being able to pull a trailer or just some real get up and go.
hilligan Posted March 19, 2011 #18 Posted March 19, 2011 Howdy Reddog, I just got an '83 too, same color. No, my wife isn't jealous enough to threaten me with living in the garage; she can't get me out of it now! Big learning curve here. 30 years on Harleys, the last 3 years on a KLR 650. And now my 'antique' Venture. Let me know what you discover as time goes by. Have fun.
Reddog170 Posted March 19, 2011 Author #19 Posted March 19, 2011 Yep there is a BIG learning curve with these. I had a Harley for about three months. Got maybe 2 weeks of riding and the rest of the time working on it. Sold it and swore to never own one again. May have just gotten a bad one, But I really enjoy the touring bikes. This venture fit the bill for what I wanted perfectly. Looking forward to many miles of fun with her, maybe I will take my wife along too. Shaun
