royalstar09 Posted March 8, 2011 #1 Posted March 8, 2011 How many are using a smaller bike for daily in town quick trips? I have been thinking it would be nice to have a little bike for in town running and quick trips close to home. Id love to have a small vespa typwe scooter as our town is really small and a helmet is not required. Just thinking outloud.
BoomerCPO Posted March 8, 2011 #2 Posted March 8, 2011 If I had it to do over I never would have let my C50 Boulevard go when I purchased my Venture. That was the sweetest mid-Cruiser scoot I have ever owned and I loved every mile I put on her. Boomer....who sez hindsight hurts sometimes.
Kirby Posted March 8, 2011 #3 Posted March 8, 2011 I use my RSV for everything but hauling off the trash. If I have to be somewhere really fast, I take the VMAX! It's my "little" bike!!!
Redneck Posted March 8, 2011 #4 Posted March 8, 2011 I have the venture a heritage soft tail and a klr650 it's nice to have a lighter scoot for local and short trip rides. The hard part is deciding which ones turn it is to go for a ride.
E-Fishin-C Posted March 8, 2011 #5 Posted March 8, 2011 FJR 1300 and a and a Raleigh 21 speed Cross Country
Bobby G Posted March 8, 2011 #6 Posted March 8, 2011 We pub crawl on the Softail from time to time, and our Shadow 750 ACE and the VTX 1300 were also perfect around town bikes in our stable. I regret selling the VTX more than I can tell you.
royalstar09 Posted March 8, 2011 Author #7 Posted March 8, 2011 Im keeping a look out for a nice little scoot for just the in town and quick trip purposes. I was just curious how many more do tyhe same. Looks like a common thing when you have a large cruiser bike to have that second small bike to beat around on.
Flyinfool Posted March 8, 2011 #8 Posted March 8, 2011 My 1st gen IS my little around town cruiser / errand runner. I do not regret getting rid of any of the smaller bikes that I have ever had. I can no longer even conceive of ever owning anything smaller again.
showmebob Posted March 8, 2011 #9 Posted March 8, 2011 I have three bikes that run, 1986 venture, 1979 yamaha Xs1100, 1981 goldwing and about 6 outher bikes i have not got to yet, mostly ol gold wings and old xs1100, if i find some left alone abused ol bike that i think i can fix or use some parts off of i will buy it if it is cheep.
Ltusmcret Posted March 8, 2011 #10 Posted March 8, 2011 My #2 bike is a 1993 BMR K1100LT that I'm gonna sell 'cause it's too tall for my vertically challenged inseam!! This "tippy-toe" nonsense at intersections just don't make it for this old man!
wes0778 Posted March 8, 2011 #11 Posted March 8, 2011 If you can call a 1998 RS Tour Classic a small bike, it is my "grocery getter". The seat height is such that I can get both heels down at the same time and the (added) Venture saddle bags and trunk are empty. To me it also is more nimble "in town" than the RSV.
SMSgt Posted March 8, 2011 #12 Posted March 8, 2011 My small around town grocery gitter is a 2004, 102cid, Road Star. I bought it before I bought my RSV. The torque of the huge V twin is so much fun around town and it sounds great with VH power shot exhaust. The Venture is for my wife to hang on the back of and go to far away places.
Danaman Posted March 8, 2011 #13 Posted March 8, 2011 I had a 2000 venture then sold it a bought a harley electraglide classic, still have it, then I bought an 89 Royale last Oct and put on about 7000kms in 4 weeks and I liked the smooth ride so much I bought a 2004 midnite venture about 3 hours ago.
kevin-vic-b.c. Posted March 8, 2011 #14 Posted March 8, 2011 Yes I have a 2005 Suzuki gs500 as a "toy" to ride around.... I bought it for the kids dear! I have a collector plate on my Venture now so cannot ride it to work so I commute either with my Kuwahara Manhattan 21 speed or on the gs500
Beau-Kat Posted March 8, 2011 #15 Posted March 8, 2011 I use my RSV for everything but hauling off the trash. If I have to be somewhere really fast, I take the VMAX! It's my "little" bike!!! I second that! I have some smaller than the Max, but nowhere near as fun. WooHoo!
Color01 Posted March 8, 2011 #16 Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) This is my Second Bike...2002 V Twin Honda RC51 . http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c352/joycejoco/2002-RC51.jpg Edited March 8, 2011 by Color01
Piston Posted March 8, 2011 #17 Posted March 8, 2011 I'm in the same boat as Color01, Cruiser is the 96 Royal Star but my second bike is a GSX-R 1000
CaptainJoe Posted March 8, 2011 #18 Posted March 8, 2011 2005 650 Yamaha Vstar Midnight Custom:buttkick: it feels like your riding a scooter/mini bike when compared to my 2007 RSMV.
cecdoo Posted March 8, 2011 #19 Posted March 8, 2011 85 suzuki Madura, when I wanna go fast:thumbsup: Craig
TNrider Posted March 8, 2011 #20 Posted March 8, 2011 Got a choice of two alternates. 07 Vulcan 900 or an 09 Vulcan 500 (wife's bike). Save the 09 Venture for the out of town rides.
SC89Venture Posted March 8, 2011 #21 Posted March 8, 2011 I really messed up when I sold my cherry 95 Virago after getting the Venture. My butt is still sore from kicking myself.
SC89Venture Posted March 8, 2011 #22 Posted March 8, 2011 Het TNRider, How do you like the Vulcan 900? I really like those and seems to fit good. Got a choice of two alternates. 07 Vulcan 900 or an 09 Vulcan 500 (wife's bike). Save the 09 Venture for the out of town rides.
XV1100SE Posted March 8, 2011 #23 Posted March 8, 2011 I've had a '99 Virago 1100 since new and was thinking I'd keep both bikes when I got the '09 Venture last summer. I found that I started using the Venture as my daily rider and only took the Virago out once after getting the Venture. Riding the Virago it just seems so small and light now (490lbs). Love the sound of the v-twin but can save $800 in insurance by selling the Virago. No sense paying if I'm not riding it! Selling it will pay for a trailer and at least one vacation/tour on the Venture. Do I want to sell the Virago? Not really. Can't ride two bikes at once... but it just looks and sounds so damn good ! And this is my choice alone... no wife/girlfriend pushing.
Rick Haywood Posted March 8, 2011 #24 Posted March 8, 2011 1978 Goldwing that really doesn't look like a 1978 goldwing
greg_in_london Posted March 8, 2011 #25 Posted March 8, 2011 Did I read the read title right ? How many people only have two bikes ? I mainly use the Venture for camping and long Summer trips - with the sidecar I need a solo for London traffic during the day.
