Carbon_One Posted May 14, 2011 #26 Posted May 14, 2011 Like a couple others here I've been a wrench just about all my life. Never having worked in a dealership thou but for county. We serviced just about any and all types of vehicles they bought over the years for the police departments, general supervisors, airport departments, etc. I have also owned a wide variety of makes, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, VW bugs, Datsun (Nissan now), & KIA over the years. All have good and bad features IMHO. Some more then others of course. Some had mechanical problems others with bodies rusting away, mostly back in the 60's & early 70's. Today I own a "01" Dodge 4x4 pu, "07" Mustang convertible, and a "11" KIA Sorento. Gotta say thou I've been really impressed with the two KIA's I have owned. A "07" Sportage prior to the current Sorento. BTW the Sorento is made in the USA down in Georgia. I think for the most part today's cars & trucks are way ahead in serviceability and quality. My purchases had as much to do with what we wanted & liked in a vehicle and who had the best deal, getting the best bang for our hard earned money. Bottom line is buy what you like as you only need to please one person (2 if including the spouse) . Larry
Freebird Posted May 14, 2011 #27 Posted May 14, 2011 I'm with Larry on the Sorento. My wife was driving an '04 and it was great. A year ago, we traded it in on the new '11 model when they first came out. When we went looking for a new car, we looked at a lot of different small to mid size SUVs but she wanted another Sorento. She has been very pleased with it and I'm perfectly happy with the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty. The '04 was 4X4 but the new one is full time AWD. We drove it to Texas last summer and averaged about 28 MPG and that's not bad for a mid sized AWD SUV.
CMIKE Posted May 14, 2011 #28 Posted May 14, 2011 In 2007 my wife purchased one of them 4 door Jeep wranglers with the hard top. Good looking rig...4x4 v6. It has turned out to be a mess. 45000 miles uses a quart of oil every 1000 miles. Don't smoke that I can catch it...and does not leak on the garage floor. I have no idea where it is going. Rattles like a pulpwood truck. If it is raining...and you open the door to get in it...the drip rail pours about 16 ozs of water into the front floor board and on your head and will drowned you as you get in. Does not have enough power to turn the 4 wheel drive if you get in just a little bit of mud. I have about a dozen recalls on it...about an assortment of things. I was very disappointed in it. I used to LOVE them dodge power wagons...77-79 and had quite a few of them. Dealers says oil consumption is normal... I am afraid I will not buy anything else they make.
