muaymendez1 Posted March 7, 2011 #1 Posted March 7, 2011 i just picked up my second feeler guage and they jump from .10mm to .12mm to 15,3 whers 11 13 and 14. i picked these up from auto zone. was wondering if anyone had luck getting more complete sets and auto parts stores locally:fingers-crossed-emo
friesman Posted March 7, 2011 #2 Posted March 7, 2011 Are you sure that you dont have a stepped feeler guage? Some have a different size at the last 3/4 of an inch than the rest of the gauge strip.
flb_78 Posted March 7, 2011 #3 Posted March 7, 2011 most feeler gauges are done in .001 of and inch and then the metric conversion is stamped on it. My smallest is .005" and that converts to .127mm and I have never used it.
flb_78 Posted March 7, 2011 #4 Posted March 7, 2011 My smallest go-no go (stepped) feeler gauge is .004" - .006" and it is very thin. The metric conversion is .102mm to .152mm
muaymendez1 Posted March 7, 2011 Author #5 Posted March 7, 2011 (edited) where did you get that one. Thats seem alot easier then using my .102 mm and addind smaller ones to get the right size my 1st feeler guage had .102 .127 . 152 which is larger than the .15 spec for intake then i have .17 and .202 whihch is also not complete and the last one is larger than the specs allow. MiCarl Posted March 7, 2011 #6 Posted March 7, 2011 Most metric gauges I've seen don't go small enough to do Venture valves. I did just recently see a set that went small enough - I think in the Snap-On catalog. Gonna be pricey. I use an inch set that has 0.0015, 0.001 then increments of 1/1000". It's got the metric values marked on it too. I've had it forever and there is no brand on it so I probably picked it up at an auto parts store.
RandyR Posted March 7, 2011 #7 Posted March 7, 2011 I found a set of metric feelers that had ultra thin gauges down to .01mm so you could add the thin one to a thicker one to make any gauge. I think I bought it at Northern Tool, but it might have been Advanced Auto.
flb_78 Posted March 7, 2011 #8 Posted March 7, 2011 intake clearances are .004-.006" exhaust clearances are .006-.008"
muaymendez1 Posted March 7, 2011 Author #9 Posted March 7, 2011 that last post kind of answered my question. The new stepped guage I just purchased has .004 - .006 and .006- .008 . That should be good enough I guess. if it doesnt fit then i know I need new shims. thanks guys.
flb_78 Posted March 7, 2011 #10 Posted March 7, 2011 I found this on the ebay. It has the proper sizes to set the tappets on the Venture. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Motion-Pro-Tappet-Feeler-Gauge-006-008-MX-250F-450F-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4aa51fe3a4QQitemZ320597910436QQptZMotorsQ5fAutomotiveQ5fTools#ht_805wt_939
