dmoff1698 Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Posted March 3, 2011 Lawyer Noah Kushlefsky has filed suit in New York against Toyota Motor Company. Seems as though Mary Rivera purchased a new Lexus and parked it in her down stairs garage. According to the suit, the engine was so quiet that Mrs Rivera did not realize that the engine was still running. The following morning relatives found Mrs Rivera passed out in her upstairs bedroom and her boyfriend Ernst Codella (also a Lawyer) deceased in bed, victims of carbon monoxide posioning. The suit claims Toyota is liable because they failed to install an automatic engine shut off if the car is left unattended for some peroid of time. On the other hand; this may also prove you really can't fix stupid.
dmoff1698 Posted March 3, 2011 Author #2 Posted March 3, 2011 Maybe stupid is a self correcting problem.
jointventure Posted March 3, 2011 #3 Posted March 3, 2011 I'm surprised the sales person wasn't named in the case for not explaining that "anti-stupidity" option fully. Guess his/her pockets weren't deep enough.
Flyinfool Posted March 3, 2011 #7 Posted March 3, 2011 2 lawyers down sounds like a good start.... Even if one did manage to get back up.
flb_78 Posted March 3, 2011 #8 Posted March 3, 2011 I could almost understand it since many cars don't even use a key anymore. You just hop in and hit a button. To shut it off, you have to hit the button again or just get out and walk a certain distance away until the passkey isn't detected anymore and the car automatically shuts off.
Snaggletooth Posted March 3, 2011 #9 Posted March 3, 2011 What was that old joke? What do you call a thousand lawyers chained together on the bottom of the ocean? A good start.
Squeeze Posted March 4, 2011 #11 Posted March 4, 2011 The '09 VMAX shuts down after 20 Minutes of running on Idle and produces an Error Code on the next Startup, after you charged the Battery, that is.
CaptainJoe Posted March 4, 2011 #12 Posted March 4, 2011 Maybe stupid is a self correcting problem. MAYBE? LOL... Maybe... she also didn't notice her keys were still in the ignition and the dash lights were still on?... Or, do you think she always just left her keys in the car? Comeon....
Hummingbird Posted March 4, 2011 #13 Posted March 4, 2011 Evidently on some models you have to order the turn signals and I'm betting that she also got one of those models. I've seen many of those on the road
Kregerdoodle Posted March 4, 2011 #14 Posted March 4, 2011 I see those every day, most of them have Sheriff on the side of them! Evidently on some models you have to order the turn signals and I'm betting that she also got one of those models. I've seen many of those on the road
friesman Posted March 4, 2011 #15 Posted March 4, 2011 When I start my Escape with the remote it only runs for 8 minutes and shuts off. It can also be set to restart if it detects the engine temperature dropping below a certain point and run it for those 8 minutes and shut off again. When I asked the technician about some details he said to me that the shut off mechanism was in the electronics on the SUV not in the remote starter, If that is the case I gotta wonder why it isnt turned on at the factory. Brian
Yammer Dan Posted March 4, 2011 #16 Posted March 4, 2011 Another thing we will have to pay for on the newer models.
OldBear Posted March 4, 2011 #17 Posted March 4, 2011 Forest was right....stupid is as stupid does. Or, as an old engineer friend of mine put it, it's tough to make things idiot proof 'cause idiots are so ingenious....

mraf Posted March 4, 2011 #19 Posted March 4, 2011 Mary and Noah are in it for the bucks now that Ernst is out of the picture. Mary has sleep-apnia and wears a oxygen mask to bed. Mums the word! Stay tuned!
ArcsSparks Posted March 4, 2011 #20 Posted March 4, 2011 Life is tough! Life is tougher when your stupid!!

bongobobny Posted March 4, 2011 #22 Posted March 4, 2011 I've been saying "Stupider by the minute" and this definately supports my hypothesis...
Leland Posted March 4, 2011 #23 Posted March 4, 2011 You would have thought that two highly educated people would have been smart enough to have carbon monoxide detectors in their home.
ArcsSparks Posted March 5, 2011 #24 Posted March 5, 2011 educated has nothing to do with common sence. Just look at the lawyers on the hill
DragonRider Posted March 5, 2011 #25 Posted March 5, 2011 I am surprised they haven't thought to sue the homebuilder for not having them as standard equipment in the home.......... You would have thought that two highly educated people would have been smart enough to have carbon monoxide detectors in their home.
