royalstarjac Posted March 3, 2011 #26 Posted March 3, 2011 One side effect of freedom is that there will be people you don't like doing things you don't like. It is WBC right to speak their mind and it is ours to stand the line and shield the families from their venom.
AKRefugee Posted March 3, 2011 #27 Posted March 3, 2011 As I tell any one that ask me about the PGR, "it is about honoring those men and women who have, are or will be serving our country" period. You don't have to "join" anything. You don't have to be a veteran. You don't have to ride a motorcycle. All you have to do is show up to those missions you can and show honor. The national site will always list the active missions coming up. Go to this http://patriotguard.org/Home/tabid/53/Default.aspx and scroll down. All missions are on the right hand side. As mentioned by others you can sign up and notify the state ride captain that you would like to be on the mailing list for missions or you can just check the website when ever you will be available for a mission. Remember Show up for the missions you can Show honor and respect for those we have lost, and their families Show restraint by being a proud and silent wall between any "uninvited guest" and the family if so required. It's not about the "uninvited guest" it about the fallen.
CaptainJoe Posted March 3, 2011 #28 Posted March 3, 2011 PGR new members yesterday 55 PGR new members today 855 Guess that Supreme Court ruling had an impact : ) Just signed up under Jhermsd ... long overdue Yes we do have freedom of speech, but it seems to be " lopsided"... Perhaps....... We (PGR) should hold a non confrontational national rally at WBC headquarters?...
Aimhigh Posted March 3, 2011 #29 Posted March 3, 2011 I may not agree with what you are saying...but, I will defend to the death your right to say it. Freedom sometimes brings irony...case in point...the right of those "people" to protest and spew their hatred at the funerals of those who protected their right to protest! It is really good to see the impact of this...resulting in the interest in the Patriot Guard Riders. You will be proud when you support the missions!
Monty Posted March 3, 2011 #30 Posted March 3, 2011 I have been a member for a while, but haven't made any missions yet. They are very short notice, and I am usually at work.
Shot Posted March 3, 2011 #31 Posted March 3, 2011 Been serving for a few years and it is an honor. We need all the volunteers we can get so sign up and get active.
zooer Posted March 3, 2011 #32 Posted March 3, 2011 I would not dare say what I really think of this bunch of scum sucking worthless judges that made this decision. Would I?
Flyinfool Posted March 3, 2011 #33 Posted March 3, 2011 Unfortunately judges are not supposed to do the right thing, they must follow the law, if we do not like the law, it is up to us to contact our elected officials to change the law so that the judge(s) can do the right thing.
Steel Horse Cowboy Posted March 3, 2011 #34 Posted March 3, 2011 If you don't think you could stand still and take abusive speech from someone without getting confrontational with them or maybe pushing or hitting them PLEASE do not join PGR. That would only discredit and hurt the image and mission of the PGR. The mission of the PGR is to shield the family and honor the fallen without violence. C.R.
Bwhite Posted March 3, 2011 #35 Posted March 3, 2011 The judges ruled exactly as they should have, to not have would have created a very slippery slope.
BoomerCPO Posted March 3, 2011 #36 Posted March 3, 2011 I have been with the Patriot Guard since 2005....and a PGR Ride Captain since 2007. Over 350 Missions to date.... covering 7 New England States and now MS.,LA., and East Texas. Our troops KNOW we have their backs....and they love us for it !! Ride With Respect Brothers and Sisters of the Patriot Guard!! Boomer....who sez even the pygmies will stand the Flag Line with respect.
coy55boy Posted March 3, 2011 #37 Posted March 3, 2011 It no longer surprises me that a small group of citizens will subvert and distort the intentions of our founding fathers regarding freedom of speech. When I was a kid, merely spitting towards the flag was unheard of. Now, burning and stomping this symbol of our nation is simply considered freedom of speech. I had never heard of this group before I read this thread yesterday. As soon as I read the first few posts, I went to the website, joined, purchased a few items, and intend to participate whenever possible. Having served in the Armed Services during wartime (USN '73-77), I have real respect for our brothers and sisters that make this commitment to our country. It will be my pleasure to show respect for these fallen soldiers and shield their friends and families when necessary. My Dad, also a USN vet (Korean conflict), will be 80 this year. I will be asking him to request PGR attendance when it is time for his final mission. I've already asked my wife to make sure that happens when it is my turn...
Bobby G Posted March 3, 2011 #38 Posted March 3, 2011 I've been a PGR flagline member since '07 and am also a former Ride Captain here in GA. Since that time, we have only had the protesters here twice, and both times, we had hundreds of patriots show up to shield the families so that they never even knew they were there. We form a wall of flags, turn our backs to the hate mongers, and never, ever acknowledge them at all. The local law enforcement literally surrounds them for their own protection so that passers by won't kill them. One cop told me that they just stare at them in hopes that they will cross the 500 foot barrier by one inch, so they can arrest them for violating the law. At one protest, they even had the paddy wagon there just in case, and in full view of the protesters so they knew they were serious. I still try to make these PGR honor missions when I can, but we also make every effort to love on our military and veterans while they are still with us through the Warriors Watch Riders and their various "feel good" missions. It really balances things out emotionally for us, so that we don't "burn out" on the constant requests we get for funeral missions. You can check them out at http://www.warriorswatch.org. They are not as big numbers-wise as the PGR, but the mission is just as important, and they have things going on in most states.
FutureVentures Posted March 3, 2011 #39 Posted March 3, 2011 Unfortunately judges are not supposed to do the right thing, they must follow the law, if we do not like the law, it is up to us to contact our elected officials to change the law so that the judge(s) can do the right thing. Agree with your concept but, it's not "the law" the Supreme Court interpreted in this case, it's the Constitution. Or am I wrong, again? Much as these people disgust me, I think the Court was right in this case... These demented people make their living and support their "church" by suing guys like us that threaten or abuse them when they are protesting. They truly are disturbed, misguided people. I hope they either wake up, or go to Ghana and like former idiots, ingest some nice purple kool-aid and check out forever.

On Mar 5 they are supporting a send off for the 432nd Civil Affairs Batallion in Green Bay, for example. straycatt Posted March 3, 2011 #41 Posted March 3, 2011 If you don't think you could stand still and take abusive speech from someone without getting confrontational with them or maybe pushing or hitting them PLEASE do not join PGR. That would only discredit and hurt the image and mission of the PGR. The mission of the PGR is to shield the family and honor the fallen without violence. C.R. I respectfully disagree. Join anyway. The members at a mission are going to do their best to not allow any of our members to get physical/confrontational with any UG's. I have "talked down" several people (PGR and non) that were about to attempt to do something that they shouldn't. In the early days, when we were all new at this, it may have been a larger concern, but today we unfortunately have quite a bit of experience with the UG's and we know how to help new members deal with them. It is true, though that some folks just can't handle the stress of the flag line. It is often difficult, there is no shame in that, and there are other places where we can use your help. However, if you do make a scene you WILL be asked to leave and not return, but that is very very rare.
ashley9187 Posted March 4, 2011 #42 Posted March 4, 2011 I also joined today, long over due. :sign yeah that:Me too:thumbsup2: Rick A.
davecb Posted March 4, 2011 #43 Posted March 4, 2011 I am a PGR member. Now, from what I understand , there are only 70 to 80 members of this church. If you go to youtube and you will see what they actually do. They are lucky they have not come to Alabama. They are very lucky that someone has not blown up all of them while they are in their church. Trust me, you watchem on youtube...You WILL get mad..
Riderduke Posted March 4, 2011 #44 Posted March 4, 2011 Here is an e-mail that I just got concerning the Courts decission: All, I would like to pass along a statement from the PGR Board of Directors concerning yesterday's Supreme Court ruling: "The Patriot Guard Riders are a 501c3 organization of support and caring for our military members, veterans, and families. Our mission is to stand for them in their loss and grief and help them to know that there are still people who are aware of the sacrifice their families have made and to show our honor and respect for their service. The PGR mission is only completed at the request of the family. It's a necessary part of our respect for them. It also has nothing to do with any organized hate groups that conduct protests to hurt them. We shield our families with our care and support. While we stand that line or escort, nothing matters to us except our hero and family. We respect the right to free speech recognized in our country's founding documents. It's one of the freedoms that define America. Many of our members have served and sworn an oath to support these rights. As an organization, we have to respect the decision of the courts even though our membership has diverse views on the limitation of free speech. Such limitations have been established previously to object to "hate speech" that only offers protection to designated individuals or groups. The true travesty in this is that we would ever need to consider the "right" of someone to protest at the funeral of an American military member that has given their oath and life to defend these rights. The Patriot Guard Riders will always stand to honor and shield our fallen and their families. Our mission is founded on respect, and honor, and the debt we owe those that protect us. Sneakysnake James Davis Patriot Guard Riders Board of Directors/VP Captains..." District 6 and the Virginia Patriot Guard will continue to concentrate our efforts on our mission statement, when invited, to honor our fallen American Heroes as we stand for those who stood for US.
jointventure Posted March 4, 2011 #45 Posted March 4, 2011 Joined PGR yesterday. If the Media would have some common sense, these groups would fade away. Unfortunatly, with ratings being more important than morality these days, they keep fanning the flames. I know, I know, some say if they didn't expose these groups that we wouldn't know they exist. I say, if they didn't give them the spotlight, they have no reason to exist! IMO Ric

I'm glad the PGR in WI is also doing some of these missions for our active military and retired veterans. It's important. Our WWR group in GA is doing a welcome home mission tomorrow for two brothers in the Army - - one returning from A-stan on leave, and his younger brother who just finished boot camp and will be shipped off shortly (destination unknown). Showing these guys the love is a huge boost to them and their family, and reinforces the WWR mission that no American Warrior will ever be forgotten, ignored or scorned ever again. Right after that, I'll be standing with my PGR brothers and sisters for a Vietnam Vet who passed away on Monday. He may never have had anyone tell him "welcome home" while he was with us, but we're sure not going to let that happen ever again. God help any UG's (uninvited guests!) who dare to show up for either of these missions! They will be the one's who are ignored and scorned.

Flyinfool Posted March 4, 2011 #48 Posted March 4, 2011 I also joined today. Being a fair weather rider there is a good chance that I will get used as a support vehicle.
GAWildKat Posted March 4, 2011 #49 Posted March 4, 2011 There was a discussion on my profile yesterday about the WBC (I didn't start it) but some of my friends locally had wanted for a long time to join the PG, but like many ppl thought it was reserved for bikers only. I told them to contact the State Captain and find out how they could help the PG in their own way.
Steel Horse Cowboy Posted March 4, 2011 #50 Posted March 4, 2011 I just heard on the noon news that the WBC group was HIGH on the supreme court decision and they were no longer just going to concentrate on just the military. They are coming to Ky to protest Catholic and Protestent churches this weekend. They said God hates Catholics and false prohet churches. C.R.
