What did I get into???

I think there was a black/grey sold in europe only. It was called a '94, but (I seem to remember) it was actually left over '93, or built in '93 and called '94. I saw a picture of one a long time ago, they were pretty rare, even in Europe.

I thought it might have been a Canadian bike except it doesn't have a KPH speedo. I'll know more once I start digging into it. I didn't look at the born-on tag. Just took the sellers word that it was a '91. Besides all the '93's I've ever seen are blue on blue. MOF I own one. Once I take some pics and post them, I'll let everyone put their thinking caps on and we can figure it out.

Jack, I got a black / gray right side upper in my room. I got it from Montreal about a month or so ago. So I don't think it is a repaint.

Maybe it's a Canadian that's had it's dash replaced??? Although the original owner was from Ruidoso NM. ?? It's close to Roswell.... maybe that explains it.....ooweeoo :)

Ya know. I gotta admit, I had been looking at 2gens. Don't anybody faint. I actually rode a couple. Sorry guys... I guess it's my being horizontally challenged... but 2ndGens just don't feel 'right' to me. I get on one and my knees are in my eyeballs. OK not my eyeballs, but you get the idea. That's what I like about a 1stGen. It sits high, and I can stretch forward on the highway pegs, or keep 'm under me on the stock pegs. I even find myself resting the back of my calf on the highways on long trips. With the passenger packed with a duffle bag I can lean back, and it's very comfortable. So...... that said I went out and bought another 1stGen. A '91 black/gray. I don't know if it's a repaint... I can't find the color combination listed in the history section.... but I really really like it. It's got more chrome on it than I care to admit. Would look great cruising East L.A. in SoCal.... :) It's got more V-Line stuff on it than I've never seen before??? The rear end lighting will look good around christmas. And it already has a trailer 'receiver' hitch installed and wired. It has a few seedy cosmetic plastic areas, but every thing it needs I have stashed!! I'll post pics when I get it smoozed. :thumbsup2:
So much for having a bike you don't have to work on all the time. You are taking the correct approach though once you get 50 first gens you will have a 50 percent chance that 1 will start every couple of times you want to ride.:stirthepot::rotf::rotf::rotf:

IT RUNS!!! Soaked carbs and put them back on and she fired right up. Was going to break them down but first bowl I tried had screws so tight I couldn't get thaem loose and was in hurry. It still runs rough. Sounds like three cylinders but I know it will run. I'll get into it more tomorrow.

Dan, it sounds like you are going thru what I will end up going thru next year trying to restore the '85. I've already acquired a spare gas tank, carbs, and calipers and master cylanders to rebuild over this winter in preparation to try to fire it up next spring. Thanks for the heads up on the possible clutch problems I will most likely encounter. Hmmm, maybe time for a Barrett (sp) clutch setup for Goldie so I can use the existing good assy from Goldie on Brownie...

Bought both of mine off Ebay. Both looked great but neglected in the maintenance area. Much work later I am happy with my First Gen. They were running but not close to how they should have been. Anyway, didnt see the cooling system addressed here. I know you are familiar with these bikes, and would not overlook that in one that had been sitting for so long, and wouldnt let it overheat on you while focused on everything else, like I nearly did, so I'll shut up now. Even after all the surprises, *****ing and moaning I did with the 2 I have owned, when I see one for sale locally, there is an 83 here now for 2200.00 if anyone is interested, I still find myself considering going through it all again, knowing it has the same problems both of mine had. Kinda miss the challenge, and the parts chasing, then I go out and polish some chrome and Im ok again. Good luck with it.
