1BigDog Posted March 2, 2011 #1 Posted March 2, 2011 I see where many have upgraded to the Polk speakers. Crutchfield has a great deal on these Boston Acoustic speakers and im wondering if these would be a good fit for the RSV, front and rear. Please let me know what you think..... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_065S45/Boston-Acoustics-S45.html?tp=102
flb_78 Posted March 2, 2011 #2 Posted March 2, 2011 I have a set of Polk DB401s in the fairing. They're marine rated. The Bostons look good, but it doesn't say if they are marine rated. You should also install a set of speaker baffles on the back of your new speakers to make them sound more gooder. http://www.crutchfield.com/shopsearch/4%22_baffles.html
Guest Posted March 2, 2011 #3 Posted March 2, 2011 Thats what I was concerned about, the marine rating. I do plan on adding the baffles. Thanks, for the info.
Guest scarylarry Posted March 2, 2011 #4 Posted March 2, 2011 Installed a set of polks this weekend, I did add the bass blockers too.. I'm happy with them and they are more of a crisp sound I did not do the rear and doubt if I will... Also Amazon has them cheaper too..
Guest Posted March 2, 2011 #5 Posted March 2, 2011 (edited) Just ordered the 401's from crutchfield. 79 for one set and 1/2 off the second set. Also bought the speaker baffles as well. Thanks for the quick help. Sure do hope this upgrade meets Eck's expectations. Dang, shoulda looked at Amazon first. They were a bit cheaper in price. Oh well, would have had to order the baffles from crutchfield anyway and pay for shippng as well. Guess it all worked out about the same. Edited March 2, 2011 by Ruffy DOH!!
Color01 Posted March 2, 2011 #6 Posted March 2, 2011 I installed last year the Polk speakers....I think the Stock speakers sounds much better.
a1bummer Posted March 2, 2011 #7 Posted March 2, 2011 How about speaker options for the 1st gens? If i remember right, they're 4.5" aren't they? I'm about to resort to finding a good pair of 4" speakers and make a plate to take up the extra .5".
Freebird Posted March 2, 2011 #8 Posted March 2, 2011 They may be too deep for the rear speaker pods. I first bought a set of Alpines that worked fine in the front but were too deep for the rear. I really don't worry about whether or not they are marine rated. The polks are but I've had some that weren't and they were fine.

I know that back when I had my '88, I replaced them with a set of Pioneers that I picked up at Walmart.
