Aftermarket goodies for 1986 Venture

I recently purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture, and am looking for a couple of things that it lacks from my previous Wing. Driver floorboards for one (with the heel / toe shifter) and a set of arm rests (folding if available) for the wife's seat. I've seen pics of bikes that have the boards, but am unable to locate any information on them. Granted, 25 years is too long for folks like Markland to keep stuff on their shelves, but if anyone has ANY information on MFG.'s or where to look, I'd appreciate it.

A couple of other things I want to ask but hesitate since they will make me look REAL stupid. the cover on the left side of the fairing, over the radio, is that supposed to slide? Also, the previous owner has a baggie full of "intercom" equipment that is to be placed in our helmets. He never used them, and has no clue on how they work. Owners manual is also wrecked (ALL the pages are stuck together!) and I'm having no luck finding one on the web either.

 

Any help will be appreciated!

I don't know for sure, but I believe floorboards and the heel/toe shifter are rare as hens teeth. I think you're in for a lot of hours watching eBay to come up with some.

 

I think you're referring to the cover that is over the cassette deck. I believe it removes rather than slides. I'm not 100% sure because I never got one or had a close look at the bike that still had the cover.

 

Electrically, plugging up headsets is pretty straight forward. Mounting to the helmet varies depending on the type of helmet and headset. If you can post a picture of the headsets and let us know what type helmets you use someone may be able to help you with the install.

 

You've posted this in the Second Generation Venture Tech Talk board. An 86 is a 1st gen Venture. Putting it in the wrong place can potentially get you fewer or confused answers. Here is what we call them:

 

83-85 1st gen MKI

86-93 1st gen MKII

96-on 2nd gen

The intercom cables plug into the main power amp located in the left upper fairing. You will have to remove the left dash assembly from the fairing to access this unless the cables are already connected to the amplifier. There is a black rubber boot that you will have to fold out of the way to see the din connectors. You need a cable for the driver connected and for the passenger. If the cables are already connected then look for a round connector to plug the headsets into.

 

Armrests are indeed another hard accessory to find. You can spend months diligently watching fleabay listings and if and when you find a set, be prepared to pay a pound of flesh for them! Same deal with floorboards!

 

Not sure of this, but there should be a PDF file of the owner's manual somewhere on this site.

Thanks all, great information, and I kinda figured I had some horse-trading to do at the next swap meets in order to find stuff. Same with the old Wing, but thats the price we pay to ride the older iron. It also makes it fun, and I can park my $1000 "investment" next to a group of 20k Harleys, and have those guys asking me questions...lol.

The link to the owners manual is gold, thanks a million Jeff. The wiring I think I'm going to leave that be for now, as I still have an alternate aftermarket setup on the helmets already. I wonder if the wife will ever figure out I took the batteries out...?
