dingy Posted May 11, 2011 #26 Posted May 11, 2011 Look at third post in thread below, there are a couple of pictures of the shifter linkage orientation. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59494 I would think you probably do need the gasket in for spacing purposes. You about got the threads wore off those bolts, you have had this thing apart several times fixing this. Don't feel bad, you aren't alone. Gary
Squeeze Posted May 13, 2011 #27 Posted May 13, 2011 You definetely need a Gasket between Casing and Stator Cover. Otherwise, as you exprirenced sadly, the Starter Gears will lock up. Regarding the shifting Issue, if you try to shift without the rear Wheel turning, you'll most likely end up not able to shift all Gears. It's just the Nature of the Tranny. If you want to shift through all Gears, you need to have someone turn the rear Wheel while shifting.
Dano Posted May 14, 2011 #28 Posted May 14, 2011 If the bike is running and it doesn't shift passed 2nd, a pin in the shift cam end has probably come out. You'll have to pull the clutch cover and clutch basket to fix it, hopefully the pin hasn't fallen down into the oil pan...... Hey Squeeze, put your glasses back on, they said they had it running............
Trader Posted May 15, 2011 #29 Posted May 15, 2011 It would seem that Julie, who first signed up in March, or Feb. if he was also "pastor", got a great deal of assistance with his problem. And that's what I love about this site. I know Freebird is not in this for the money....But perhaps there should be a shorter time frame for trial memberships....or restrictions on how much folks can get our of it as a trial member. It seems surprising that folks wouldn't bother to pay up the $12 right away. I paid $10 on E-Bay just for a PDF manual before I found this site...and it had missing pages! Here you have manuals, electrical diagrams, step by step mods....and entertainment to boot! Best $12 I ever spent!
dingy Posted May 15, 2011 #30 Posted May 15, 2011 I paid $10 on E-Bay just for a PDF manual before I found this site...and it had missing pages! I actually have the pages you are missing to that manual. It is floating around on the internet and is missing about a dozen pages. Snaggletooth scanned them for me last year & I still have the individual pages if you want them. Gary
Trader Posted May 15, 2011 #31 Posted May 15, 2011 Thanks very much for the offer....but the manual on this site is complete! Just trying to emphesize the value of this site and the need to PAY THE MEMBERSHIP!!!!!
dingy Posted May 15, 2011 #32 Posted May 15, 2011 Thanks very much for the offer....but the manual on this site is complete! Just trying to emphesize the value of this site and the need to PAY THE MEMBERSHIP!!!!! Not for the 83-85. I just downloaded it again & checked. The main manual is missing the following pages. Not the supplement manuals, they are OK. This PDF file is laid out weird. The supplement manuals are in front of the main manual. 2-5 3-5 3-10 3-52 3-55 3-58 5-20 6.2 7-27 8-3 But if your happy, I'm tickled pink. The online manual is great till you need what is on one of the missing pages. Gary
