6pak Posted February 24, 2011 Share #29 Posted February 24, 2011 Never really thought about takin the dog for a ride. but you also asked about the breed. we have a schitzu here at the house. playful, sweet little thing. 2 things you should know. first, the breed is prone to seizures. the older she gets, the more often they happen. she will freeze and get very stiff. Just pick her up and talk to her for a few and she comes out of it. Second, these dogs snore pretty loud. so if you plan on her sleeping in the bedroom, get some earplugs. Good luck with yours. We love the one we have. Seizures? wow... of all the research I've done, I've not seen that come up. I had a Chihuahua (sp?) cross Terrier years ago and around age 8 she started having seizures. Something to do with her blood cells... was like Lukemia but associated to the other cells (can't recall if it was the white or red ones)... anyway, there was no cure other than blood transfusions which only lasted a short while and eventually wouldn't be enough. We had to have her put down. It was very sad. I did read about the snoring; however, I believe this is more predominant in a pure-bred that has the shorter snout and under-bite. This particular dog appears to have some mix in him as he has a longer snout. We thought of removing the trunk box and putting a cage on there...but it's a bit tight. An idea that crossed my mind is to take an old set of saddle bags, and take the outside half off, and build a cage using the back half so you maintain the mounting system. Haven't really thought it thru....heat, exhaust etc might be an issue in that location. Plus being that close to the road might scare them out of their wits! Very cool trailer, but I would still be leary of taking the pooch. Think they would get hit with exhaust fumes? Maybe with that design it may just go around them. Some were in an open cage and one, the cage was sitting where the cooler would normally go. Sheesh!!! right in line with the exhaust. I wouldn't do that!! Now, the pic eusa1 posted, it would seem that the exhaust would be sufficiently dissipated and not enough harmful fumes would reach the dog. We went over to see him last night.... really nice little dog... took to us right away. Curious guys/gals.... what do ya'll pay for these kind of dogs down south? pups of Shih-tsu, Maltese, Yorkie, Silky, Bishon, etc breeds???? I found a 6 week old white bichon freiz malteze I only paid $150 for Casper... owner origionally wanted $250 The owner thought he had a hernia. checked with vet and said thats a $100 operation negotiated price with owner, bought dog, had to wait till he dropped to get fixed. By that time the hernia had closed up. Vet said that was pretty common. Got casper in central pa... bout a 6 hour trip... but i saved quite a few hundred dollars as they normally go for $500-800! tazmocycle Posted February 25, 2011 Share #42 Posted February 25, 2011 (edited) my neighbor got a applehead chichuahua to help his kids ashma and he said it works too. had it 12 yrs and 1 day he didn't come back from going outside. few months ago the other dog they had come from under the house with a small skelton head, and he found what was left of him under the house. about a month ago they were having a yard sale and peanut, his longhaired chichuahua, dispeared and her thought his daughter had took him with her, but later figured out a mexican family with a couple of kids that had been playing with him, must had taken him off. i had a black cocker that would jump up on the tank of my goldwing and ride with me on short around town rides. i strapped a huge folded-up beach towel on the tank, and she always sat better still while on it. we now have a mtn terrier and jack russell mix and susan has talked about riding on the bike but i think she's afraid if anything ever happened to her it would tear her up. donnabella(bella) will run and jump in any of our vechiles if the door is open and wants to go for a ride. around the house she dosen't want to have anything to do with me, and i have to back-up to thebed to get in, all the time she's growling at me, with susan holding her back. but anytime i go outside she's right behind me, wanting to go for a ride. some friends of our's took ma back pack and she wears it in the front with their yorkie in it. susan's sister has a yorkie too, which seems to be a good even-tempered dog. good luck with what even ya'll do. here she is with a large beef rib bone we got for her from fire of brazil resturant in atlanta, ga. " Mine will be Hyperallergenic till he's about two then he will revert to Hypoallergenic.. as he's so full of himself , he and our Russian Grey cat run from one end of the house to the other, back and forth, backa and forth... makes me tired just watching them... They ride bikes also, have a small dog and her husband puts it on the seat behind him with straps. They really like it.If the pix don't come through..pull up Petco's home page and put in luggage dog carrier. It gives all the specs. We have one almost like that one except it opens from the top. chabicheka Posted February 25, 2011 Share #45 Posted February 25, 2011 Ours is a shihtzu/pomeronian mix. very aggressive when he comes across any other dog, regardless of the other dogs size. did that right from the time we got him. couple of larger dogs bit him when he was small cause of his aggressive attitude, and since then he has never been able to socialise with other dogs. excellent with people and kids, though. was meant for my son, but has become MY dog. Bought from pet shop. was priced at 1200.00 and was on sale for 800.00. which i think is still excessive....but in my view worth every cent. Some dogs are inherently aggressive, others aren't. I'm a firm believer that they can be trained not to be. It boils down to "who's the pack leader" or "who believes they should be the pack leader". It's obvious tazmocycle's dog is in their house LOL I'm also very "into" Cesar Milan's "Dog Whisperer" show and his philosophy.
