Also be aware that in Ridgeland County, SC they have a RV parked on the side of I-95 and are using cameras to ticket vehicles as they pass.

This is something the town of Ridgeland is doing, the state is working on getting it removed.

Best reason I know of to boycott Georgia. We were going to Helen in May but I think another direction is where we will spend our money.

Not to stir things up

(well....OK JUST to stir things up.:stickpoke:)

Why is it OK for the troopers to launch a blitz targeting big rigs to ensure drivers are sleeping enough....or that the rigs are safe to be on the road...but it's NOT OK for them to target a different segment of the road users?

I agree it seems "suspect" but if we are obeying the laws of the land what's the problem?

I see the validity of LEO's stopping anyone provided PROBABLE CAUSE is clear and present....ie: speeding, driving aggresively/recklessly, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol. Stopping folks just to check for Reg/Insurance is NOT what I condone. I guess it is what it is tho..... and all we can do is exercise our freedom of choice on where we spend our money.:cool10:

Boomer....who sez them State Troopers get a real kick out of seeing those pygmies in the saddlebags.:whistling:

I rode down to Florida yesterday by way of US41 which parallels I75. I got stopped at a check point between, I think, Lenox and Sparks. It was just a normal roadblock where they were checking for MC license. I talked for a few minutes with the officer and I got the impression he really didn't want to be there either. From where I was sitting you could see I75 traffic moving right along. Maybe they are thinking that someone that is riding the backroads has something to hide. Anyway, I think if you have everything in order you shouldn't have a thing to worry about.

Targeting recreational equipment and perceived dangerous truck drivers is a tried and true American way for our Politicians to show the voters they are doing their job. They can claim success at protecting mankind while pissing off a minimum number of voters.

Question: Why aren't GA voters screaming about the cost in tax & tourist dollars?

So basicly stay on the interstate and you have no problems going through Georgia. Take the senic routes get hasseled. To bad for the rural business. Sad very sad.

Ive never heard on the news where a bus load of kids was killed by a motorcyclist who fell asleep and slammed into them.

After 14 years of working on tractor/trailers, I don't think there are enough safety inspections for OTR trucks. Many of those trucks and trailers are dangerous to have on the road.

Big Rigs are Commercial Motor Vehicles, (CMV), and CMV's, because they are commercial, follow a different set of rules. A CMV can be stopped anytime for a safety inspection. You agree to this when you obtain the required permits to operate a CMV.

Privately Owned Vehicles, (POV), require a legally articulateable reason to initiate a traffic stop. IMHO, the mere fact that someone is riding a motorcycle is not a legally articulateable reason to initiate a traffic stop.

There is presently a federal court case to determine if motorcycle checkpoints are legal or not. Regardless of the upcoming ruling, the case will likely be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.

For the most part, motorcycle checkpoints are funded through federal grants from the NHTSA, part of the Transportation Department. Some nicely worded letters to our respective Congress Critters should help to stem the flow of federal grants for this foolishness. :backinmyday:
